Waiting for 1st scan

Post by michelle_in_scotland »

Hiya girls,
Here's our new home until we feel ready to move to the other side and join in the 1st trimester thread.
We can post our scan dates and support each other while we are still trying to get our heads round that we actually got a positive result.
I don't really have the time to keep the scan dates updated but if we all just copy and paste and add our own on the list it would be great. Once we have our scans we can add a :D for each heartbeat detected so we know how many we are having. You don't have to move straight to the 1st trimester thread after your scan, you can stay here for as long as you feel comfortable.
So far the list is

Dora - 27th September
Michelle - 4th October
Ange - 6th October
Me 34 DH 33 male factor
1st ICSI - March 05 total freeze all
Natural FET - July 05 -ve
Natural FET - Aug 05 +ve
Baby GIRL due 15th May 2006 (Kady finally arrived on 26th May)
Complete shock on 22/10/09 when HPT came up +ve Natural pg

Hi everyone

I think this is a great idea to start this thread. Just want to say congratulations to all you ladies who have got a BFP. Please post any questions on the 'pregnancy after treatment' board though, if you have any. I remember what it was like at this time, exciting but anxious at the same time.
Take care
Love Kim

What a terrific idea!! You hit the nail right on the head with my feelings about moving to the other thread and being a little nervous about being newly pregnant. :D

I am still in a state of shock, however, we just moved into our new house and our third bedroom is the "baby's room" and that makes it all the more real. :!:

Anyway, I feel so lost about what I am supposed to be expecting as far as doctor visits go and I know nothing about blood tests, levels, scans or any of that so any experiences would be greatly appreciated.

 My dilemma is that we did the insemination back at home with infertility specialist. Now that we have moved, this clinic doesn't do infertility and they are planning on treating my pregnancy like a natural one....is that ok?? I hear of all these women getting scans and if I remember right with my first pregnancy (which I conceived naturally) I only had one done much further along.

:?: After you ladies found out you had a BFP, how soon did you see your doctor and what was that for? So far all they did for me was take lots of blood and a urine sample and scheduled my first appt. which was 2 weeks out, ( one week now).

Hope I don't sound to paranoid....just nervous and apprehensive about this new clinic! :?

Even though I've already had three tests at my doctor's last week (waiting for the HcG to double)...and my first scan is only 6 days away - today I went out and bought a home pregnancy test.

I can't tell you how happy I felt seeing those two red lines appear within seconds. Somehow, seeing that myself made it feel more real. Crazy, I know, but this waiting is so hard!

Good luck to everyone,
Susan

michelle, this is a brilliant idea coz i too felt a bit weird moving over to the 'other side' even tho ever since i registered on this site i dreamt about going over but now that i can i just dont wanna jinx it or something! i'm that anxious/paranoid i did a home pregnancy test... 2 in fact!!! i just wanted to make sure  i'm praying sooo hard that i hear a heartbeat! just cant wait for the scan so i've added myself..

SusanP - 26th Sept
Dora - 27th September
Danica - 29th September
Michelle - 4th October
Ange - 6th October
Tilly - 6th October

americnliberty, i think ivf'ers get an initial scan with their specialist to hear a heartbeat at 6wks but after that the pregnancy is treated like any other pregnancy with an obstetrian/midwife! :D

americnliberty,
From my experience (in US), after a BPF (after the 2WW perid), they call you again for a blood test after a week to make sure the HCG levels are going up. And then after another week, they ask you to come in for a scan to see the baby's heartbeat (the moment ALL of us are waiting and praying for!!!). Danica, you mentioned that you can "hear" the heartbeat at 6 wks? I was told since the 6 wks really means 4 wks gestational, we can only "see" the heartbeat thru ultrasound?

Susan. you're not crazy if you do those HPT tests even after testing positive; I did 6 of them myself after I tested +ve :D, and never told DH what I was upto. He feels I'm a bit too paranoid anyways (which I agree to).

Michelle, thanks a ton one more time for starting this thread!!!!

Load and Loads of Good Luck to ALL of you.
Take Care,
Dora

My RE has me come in for the first blood test (which was yesterday) then again in 48 hours (which will be tomorrow). If the HcG doubles during that time, he's happy. If not....then another test in 48 hours. I went through this last time, but I must admit, my symptoms are much stronger this time and my first HcG number was much higher. This one is going to work!

Hi girls,
I know exactly what you all mean about being anxious and paranoid. I still think that AF will arrive any day and that all the positive tests were wrong, which sounds a bit silly. I won't really believe it's worked until i see the heartbeat/s at the scan. I will be 8 weeks when i get mine.

I have absolutely no idea about the HCG numbers you all talk about as my clinic didn't do bloods. 9 days after my e/t i felt like it was all gonna be over, i had real bad AF pains and the usual spots on my chin, i was so negative about it all so i thought i'd do an HPT, as soon as i done it i regretted it, i thought it was too early and a waste of a test but after the 3 mins was up and i looked i was totally shocked to see a faint positive, over the next 5 days until my official test day i done another 4 tests all came up positive and then the clinic finally confirmed it.
This might sound weird but i still can't bring myself to say the "P" word out loud, i keep on saying the tretment worked or it was positive. Is anyone else like this?

How are all your symptoms?
I constantly feel sick every day, only been sick 3 times (at work) but i think it was coz i hadn't eaten in a while and it was after my lunch breaks.
My boobs are getting a bit tender now and looking a lot more rounder but my nipples, oh my god, they are so embarassing, Michael (DH) asked me one day if i was wearing a bra coz they were sticking out that much, you can see them right through my bra and tops and they are so tender.
I know it's still early days but my stomach feels so bloated, had to open up my jeans buttons last night coz i was getting uncomfortable. I've always had a bit of a pot belly but it seems to have lost it's squidgyness, it's feeling a bit more solid now, or maybe it's just my imagination.
Oh, and not forgetting the tiredness, it usually hits me hard between 4 and 5pm, have to have a wee nap then, it's not good when i'm at work though. I seem to wake up every morning at 5.30am to go to the loo, you could set your clock by me  and then that's me, never away from the loo for the rest of the day.
Well, i think i've rambled on enough, gonna go have a cuppa before the tiredness hits me then it'll be nap time
Take care and talk to you all soon,
Lotsa love

Michelle

Michelle,
Thanks for starting this thread! Even though I'm 1/2 round the world - feeling lots of support/validation.

I am definitely bloated, a bit crampy, and I feel like my breasts have tripled in size. This morning I woke up at 3 am - VERY hot - and feeling a bit seasick. Ate some crackers but never fell back to sleep - so today at work am feeling like a zombie.

Just to chime in on the USA blood test/scan schedule.
I went for the beta HcG 2 weeks after the retrevial. 2 days later I went for another, 2 days after that the third. My scan is scheduled for 24 days after the transfer (seems a bit early).

I second the bloating. I feel like I'm bloated up to my ribs! I've been waking up at night sweating and having to empty my bladder...frustrating for somebody who used to sleep through the night!

I'm experiencing a significant decrease in appetite and an overall "icky" feeling in my stomach. I haven't officially gotten sick yet.

I would guess my scan is scheduled in the next 10 days, but I'll find out tomrrow.

Michelle

I had to go into maternity trousers at 6 weeks!!!! Don't panic, just enjoy it and keep rubbing that tummy. As for the boobs, sorry but you'll need to get used to it, that sensation seems to last a long time!!!

Good luck to all you ladies. Keeping everything crossed for you.

I second the bloating too!!!!!!!! Have to infact pull down my shirt every now and then!! My breasts also hurt too, especially at night after I remove my bra and in the mornings.

Other than that, I still have mild cramping, but no other symptoms as such (frequent urination, morning sickness, tiredness, breasts also not enlarged :-( ) which makes me paranoid again and makes me thing of vague things:-( Ghosh, this wait is the longest I've experienced (I think I said the same thing for my 2WW too:-)). Please forgive me if I sound silly, but this is the only place where I can express myself so openly.

Wishing everyone loads of luck.
Love,
Dora
