IVF

Post by Linda Wood »

My husband and I have been trying to conceive for 3 years and just started IVF 5 days ago. I am pretty scared and would like to hear some feed back on it. The doctor says we are perfect for this beacuse of our stats. I am hoping he is right. I'm just scared and need support. My family of course are scared for me and want me to look at the possibilities of it not taking the first time around but I just don't want to hear the negative parts anymore. Does someone have any advise for me?
Thank

there is so much info in all the posts..... i hope that you get a +ive on the first try!! there are several who do (myself included)... and it's great to keep a positive mental attitude (PMA)... did you start the stimulation drugs 5 days ago?? there is a september buddies or october buddies thread that has people going through the same things that you are.... you'll get a lot of support there.... I'm part of the september buddies as i started stims 7 days ago, and am hoping for an EC (ecc collection) next tuesday or wednesday!!!!

take care of your self and keep a PMA!!!

Yes, I did start the pills 5 days ago and it seems to be going by pretty fast. November 3rd is the first day my huband will start doing my injections. We have already had all of our blood work and sperm test done and they all came back great. The problem with me is I have blocked tubs, I am being optimistic and hopeful!! I wish you luck as well. Have you concieved a child threw IVF?

Thank you so much for you advice :)

yes i have..... we have only had luck with IVF.... we've tried clomid, injectables, IUI, and a lot of IVF's but now we are tring IVF again to expand our family... i know that it's a little different then the first time IVF's.... but trust me i've been there...

there is a november buddies tread, that will have people going through what you are at the same time.... i found this so helpfull, especally when others do not quite know what you are going through, or how you feel... you'll get a lot of support... and you'll really need it on the 2WW.

it's great that you have a PMA!!! hopefully it will be a piece of cake, and a +ive first time round!!!!

take care, and keep us updated!!

Hi just to echo Colleen's posts, I was first time lucky too, it does happen!

The November buddies are just starting up but you can expect a good number of people by early/mid October. You'll find a good cross section of first timers and people with a little more experience. It really helps me to join a buddy board each time, helps deal with the (natural) worries if you chat to others undergoing the same tmt.

The best of luck. Many of us swear by Fertility & Conception by Zita West. I constantly dip in and out of my copy. It has lots of ideas of how to best prepare for tmt and as you've a bit of time, you might like some of her ideas.

Bit of a daft question now, does your WA stand for Washington State or Western Australia? If the latter, there's an Aussies & Kiwi chat group on the General Forum. If the former, we've at least one poster from Seattle.

Debra.

Thank you so much for sharing your information with me. I am so glad that I have first timers responding to me. I am and always have been a positive looker, and my family gets upset with me because they think I don't look at the possibilities of it not working the first time, but really I do understand the risks I just like to think positive. And with wonderful women such as yourselves responding back to me it makes me feel good to know I'm not being silly thinking it just might happen our first time around. Our problem is I have blocked tubs, if you don't mind me asking what is your situation?

Thank you again for sharing

Linda, I had a tubal ligation 15 years ago (in an earlier, no kids required, relationship) so you see, even 100% blocked tubes don't make an iota of difference to IVF success!

Try the Zita West book. She is very calm, very straight forward and personally, I like her approach to the subject.

good luck

Thanks for the advice I will get the book.

I also had a tubal preganancy 3 years ago. I went for an entire trimester without a single doctor telling me there was a problem. I had 6 doctors working on me. At the end of month three I started to bleed and I was rushed via ambulance to the ER where I was hemeraging in 6 different areas. They where able to save the tubes but of couse it was a very hard loss I left the hospital with only a scar. That is why we are going IVF, no other way at this point. I did conceive naturaly in November of last year but miscarried, it would have been another tubal. So it was a blessing it didn't go as long as it did the first time around.

Thanks again for advice and sharing!
