Hi Trisha .. the clinic will want to do lots of tests before they'll agree to treat you. They'll test your hormone levels and test for things like chlamydia, HIV etc. You'll have a few consultations, and your GP will have to fill in forms (Welfare of the Child) to say you are fit to be parents. I'm afraid it's not just as simple as deciding you want IVF and starting treatment. There are lots of hurdles to jump first ... but you've started the ball rolling by seeing your GP today. Well done. I hope you can get your initial consultation set up soon.

Good luck !

Hi Trisha,

My husband and I have been trying to have our first for the last 3 years natural, my obgyn gave me the referal to go to the medical center that we are going threw now.

If your obgyn has been your doctor for a while and knows you, he will refer you to a specialist. You just have to try the other avenues first. Clomid is good for women who have a problem ovulating. My tubes are blocks and so that is why we are going IVF.

I hope this helps a little for you.
Lots of Luck
