New, with lots of questions

Post by Becky28 »

Hi all,
Am so pleased to have found this site - it seems like such a strong support network. Great to read so many hopeful success stories too! Big congratulations to everyone who's recently seen the elusive blue line.
We've been TTC for just over a year and I was diagnosed with PCO last August - I'd suspected it for some time as my cycles have always been erratic but became much worse when I stopped the pill after several years of continuous use. Was going to be given Clomid, but then tests showed DH has v low count with lots of abnormal forms. We're going to talk to local assisted conception unit next week; the letter has told us already that we'll need to talk about IVF (possibly ICSI we think). I've got loads of questions whizzing around my mind and feel we're at the start of what could be a v long journey . . .
We might try IVF later this year when we've sorted out how to pay for it (!!) and prepared ourselves emotionally - I'm wondering in the meantime if Metformin would help my very irregular periods? Has anyone out there any experience of this? Is there a chance we could even get pregnant?! Just establishing a more regular cycle would be a start though.
Any advice (on anything!) would be gratefully received!!
Beck (there seem to be lots of us with the same name on the site!)

Hiya beck,
Welcome to the board, hun. Glad you found your way here. A lot of us can empathise with what you are going through and the support system here is fantastic, so do stick around.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask, there will be someone that will be able to help, and everyone else usually just gives there twopennith worth just for good measure, like me, a lot of us girls are nosey sods.
I remember what is was like to be a newbie on here too, so if there is anything you need, just shout.
Good luck with everything,
Heather xxx
Got pregnant with IUI triplets in March 04. One triplet stopped growing at 9 weeks. Gave birth to twin boys in Sep 04, Ciaran sadly lost his fight. Brennan's thriving.Looking to give Brennan a sibling soon.

Hiya Beck

Welcome to the site it will really help and you won't feel so alone now.

I also have erratic cycles which doesn't help when coupled with spermie probs as well.

My Dr said that regulating your periods and having treatment were two totally different ball games and that treatment can regulate you to ovulate when you need to. He told me to decide which I wanted. Anyway I bought some ovulation kits last month to see what the score was as if you at least know that then you are 'doing it' at the right time of the month that's half the battle.

Anyway wishing you all the best with everything and don't forget to ask any questions as there is always someone who understands and has been there.

Lisa(Loonpants)
thanks for the speedy responses!! and massive hooray for your pg lisa, i read your post a few weeks ago, you must be so thrilled!
unfortunately it's more right time of the year than right time of the month for me so don't think sticks would help!!! i only had three AF last yr, and can't stand not having them (sounds mad i know!) i worry about the longterm effects of it, but don't want to take the pill either - argh! anyway, will nag my doc about it next week, thanks again for advice.

HI Becky
I too have PCOS and dh v v low sperm count.
Its all the rage!!
I Have a good book - PCOS by Harris and Carey, which if you havent seen is def worth a look

My doc told me that even tho I wasnt having af every month you can still be ovulating. The way to tell if youa re ovulating is the day 21 test - which i guess you have had?
Not sure if its relevant but in my case I had very bad PCOS at about 23 and NO afs for basically 2 or 3 years. I then started eating more healthily, doing exercise (Also new man!) - result was that I put on weight , getting to correct BMI for me, af literlly switched itself back on. Just had scan recently and PCOS is now only mild. So in my case it appears to have been reversable.

I'm all v new to all this - but we will have to use ICSI too, and will be lucky to see it work as dh have v few good sperms. fingers crossed for all of us!

Hi all

This is my first time (after finally sussing out what my email address is so that I could register)!!!
Me and my partner have been TTC for just over 3 years, and are much luckier than some as the Dr's cannot find anything wrong with either of us (although, and I hope I don't get lynched for saying this! at times I wish they had found something so that it would perhaps be a bit easier to get our heads round).
I have just finished 6 months of Clomid(how crap does that make you feel)!! And have just found out that after BT's next week we will probably start our 1st IVF cycle which I am terrifed about!
Everyone here seems very supportive and I hope I get to chat to you all soon.
Dawn
x
P.S Is it just me or are the staff at some clinics very lacking in compassion and understaanding..?!
