Pregnancy chances or "odds"...

Post by ndalberta »

I realize that this is a very difficult issue to respond to but I thought I would give this forum a shot. My wife and I just completed an ivf cycle which was very successful. She is young, 34, and produced tons of eggs to the point we we have 11 embryos frozen. Our major prbolem was my low motility. They implanted two embryos which all of the staff told us were "gorgeous". All indications are that things could not have gone any better up to this point. My question is, simply, once we have gotten to this stage and past several hurdles, are our chances still 50/50 or better than that? We were at a very good clinic and got a lot of winks and nods from staff and nurses about our chances but I did not feel comfortable in asking about the "odds". We have just started our 2 week waiting period which is of course hard. Thanks very much for any insights.

Hi, glad your treatment went well. Unfortunately I dont think that however well it went you can predict the outcome. On my first cycle I got one embryo of not so good quality and the nurses told me not to hold out much hope, but it worked!
I do hope it has worked for you, but unfortuneately you cant tell. If you post over on the general forum there is a thread there for people on the 2ww who all go crazy together as everyone is going thru the same and its a good thing to have people to share your thoughts with
Good luck

Congratulations on getting 11 embryos frozen:) To some extent being successful is a numbers gain.

For women 35 and under my clinic has a 45% success rate per IVF cycle (including subsequent FETs).

Good luck:)

We asked the embryologist the same types of questions on the day of our transfer. The bottom line is that they don't have a clue what will develop/stick and what won't. For every piece of literature they have with one outcome, they have another to contradict it. We aren't very patient people, are we? :)
