Hi Indiana!

I think(!) that is the clinic that Professor Winston works at? I used to see him walking through Hammersmith when I worked in that area. I have huge respect for that man (although not sure how much time he spends at the hospital as he always seems to be on the TV!!!)

Sorry, but I didn't have treatment at that time so I don't know the hospital personally.

Good luck!

Hi Indiana,

i have been to Hammersmith for my first IVF and we r going for another cycle in November (hopefully).

I really liked the clinic. Even though u see a different dr. almost every time u go for your scan during tmt, i really felt they cared. They all have been rather nice.

Never bumped into Prof.Dr.Lord Winston mind Image

I am really looking forward to going back. Felt really safe and well cared for.

When r u starting tmt? Have u got a date yet?

Just saw u r from cornwall. Where abouts? My hubby is from Truro (proper job *g*)

Take care.

Cla

You were right it is lord Winstons gaff, isnt he a hero to us all.

Sally

We lived in Truro up until feb, but Dh got a new job and we now live in Newquay. Truro was a lot quieter, not as many tourists as Newquay, but we lived on a housing estate over there and now live on a massive dairy farm so i would much rather be here.

Glad you mentioned feeling safe and well cared for coz going to the big city scares the hell out of me.

We havent got any dates yet, we only found out yesterday that we cant have tmt in south west. Look under 'unsociable thread for reasons).

Thanks for the info, i calmed me down a bit.

will let you know how we get on.

Extremely small world, the estate we lived on was in Threemilestone. Jubilee road. My mum still lives in TMS. Our god children go to Treleigh junior school.

Hammersmith

Post by margaretgo »

I've got a first appointment at Hammersmith on 31st May with Mr Margara.

Dying to get on with IVF - have known I would need IVF since 1996 - took first proper step (visit to GP) in November last year and it's taken this long to get a referal!

Anyone got any experience of Hammersmith? How quickly did you get to start treatment after first appointment at the hospital?

Hi Indiana, we were at Chealse and Westminster Jan/Feb this year for our first attemp at ICSI, and i am noe 16 weeks pregnant, so they cant be that bad there i suppose, and they really looked after me, and although im just 23 and Dh is 32 we only got 5 eggs beacuse they keeped me on the lowest stim drugs, which at the time i was not very happy coz i expected to have at least double that, but i still overstimulated 5 days after ET so they did just the right thing and now we are expecting a mirical child.
I really hope the same happens for you
If you need any help or have any questions about the staff or clinic just let me know cos we seemed to know everyone by the end, and there is a midwife/nurse there, really short, short white hair and glasses and we call her ewock, she is a bit abrupt but the most helpful, funny and kindest person there.
Take care

Hi

I've had my two cycles at the Hammersmith with Mr Lavery. I was referred via nhs and got an appointment within about 2 months for first appt but then 6 month wait for first cycle - I couldn't wait - times a-ticking! - so went private with him instead. I think he's good, gives clear explanations and was very kind to me while I was in hospital after my ectopic. I did sometimes feel a bit left to get on with it but presume its because I'm a doctor and staff seem to assume i know stuff already. I'll be going back there for my next fet in a few months.
Their published figures are pretty similar to many london clinics, their fet figures are better. Apparently....
Good luck with your treatment!

Anyone else at the Hammersmith - how do you find it? They've always got an up to date copy of OK magazine in the waiting area... you can always tell a good out patients dept by that measure :D

Hi Lola,

Good to know the Hammersmith has OK! magazine - not such good news about the six month wait though. It's already taken me six months to get this far - and I'll be 38 in another 6 months!

May have to consider doing a cycle privately - wondering if it will affect my getting a cycle on the NHS? Hmm, how does that work I wonder??

I'm seeing a Mr Margara I think. Anyone else know of him?

Hi

It depends on your local authority. I'm Camden and they give you funding for an nhs cycle even if you've had a previous private cycle. Ring you local health authority - they'll be able to help you.
