clomid

Has anyone here ever got pregnant after they have been taking clomid over six months? Or do you know anyone who has?

I have read that after 6 months if it hasn't worked by then, it probably won't work. I have been told to keep taking it for another 3-6 months but I'm a bit dubious. What do you think?

I had a chemical pregnancy after the first month of clomid. We did it for 5 more rounds with no success. We moved on to IVF next....and that worked.

We produced between 1-2 follicles each month if that helps.

Terri, I've known one person to get pregnant (twins) in month one and another who gave up after 6m.

Hello Terri

I am on IVF myself at present - and have had IUI twice without clomid...I wasn't offered it as apparently I don't need it - they don't seem to use it up here in Scotland that much!....because of multiple births!!...

A few friends of mine and friends of friends have tried it - and is does seem to have good results for them - they are pregnant...........they are not sure however whether it was just the clomid that helped.......

Hi Terri-
Clomid must work for some people because doctors keep prescribing it! I know 2 people who used it and conceived, but, I don't know how long they took it for.

I did three months on clomid, the last with IUI. Didn't work. Then transitioned to injections + IUI - didn't work either.
We just did IVF and I am 7.5 weeks pregnant.

The thing about clomid was that it made me feel crazy - totally emotional, angry one minute, hysterical the next. I was really scared of the injections - but truly, they were so much better for me than the clomid.

A chemical pregnancy is basically an early miscarriage. Research has shown that half of all first pregnancies end in miscarriage. Due to the high sensitivity of home pregnancy tests, many women catch early pregnancies but end up going on to have their periods due to a chemical pregnancy.

In a molar pregnancy, the early placenta grows abnormally into a mass of cysts (called a hydatidiform mole). The baby (embryo) does not form at all or is malformed and cannot survive.

About 1 in 1,000 pregnancies is molar. Women who are over 40 or who have had two or more miscarriages are at increased risk of molar pregnancy. In the United States, women from Mexico, Southeast Asia and the Philippines are at greater risk than women of European heritage.

All molar pregnancies result from an abnormal fertilized egg with two sets of male chromosomes and either one or no sets of chromosomes from the mother. (In a normal pregnancy, the baby receives one set of chromosomes from each parent.)

Molar pregnancies are diagnosed with ultrasound The molar tissue must be removed from the uterus and the woman monitored to make sure that there is no tissue remaining. Remaining molar tissue can turn into choriocarcinoma, a rare form of cancer. Fortunately, this cancer is easy to detect and has a very high cure rate.

Most women with molar pregnancies go on to have healthy pregnancies later. The risk of reoccurrence is only about one to two percent.

What you can do:
Call your health care provider right away if you have any symptoms of a molar pregnancy:

Vaginal bleeding a week or more after a missed period, usually dark brown in color
Severe nausea and vomiting
Abdominal cramping
High blood pressure
If you have a molar pregnancy, you will need surgery to remove the tissue. Your hCG (a pregnancy hormone) levels will be monitored for about one year to make sure there is no remaining molar tissue. After a molar pregnancy, make sure you give your self time to recover physically and to grieve the loss of your pregnancy.

I was on Clomid for 6 months but it didn't work for me, I don't really hear much from anyone who says it works, that sounds really negative but I am just being honest

Hi, not sure if this helps but my sister conceived in her 3rd month of taking clomid and then fell naturally with her second a year & a half later. Was it the clomid that helped? who knows...

Never used clomid myself, but read many story's thats it's good. Heard of many ladies getting pregnant whilst on it.

Hi

I took Chlomid for six cycles earlier this year as I have PCOS. I did not fall pregnant although it did stimulate my ovaries and helped me to start ovulating regularly. I was advised by the hospital that six cycles is the longest that you should take the medication. Any longer and the risk of long term side effects increases.

We are now on a waiting list for IVF but are still try to conceive naturally as I now ovulate every cycle.

thanks everyone. I think I am going to try for another couple of months then stop and see the consultant again. I don't like the idea of using it much longer.
