1st try IVF

Post by Linda Wood »

My husband and I have been trying to conceive for 3 years and just started IVF 5 days ago. I am pretty scared and would like to hear some feed back on it. The doctor says we are perfect for this beacuse of our stats. I am hoping he is right. I'm just scared and need support. My family of course are scared for me and want me to look at the possibilities of it not taking the first time around but I just don't want to hear the negative parts anymore. Does someone have any advise for me?
Thanks

Hi Linda
Just about to start first ivf, with injections on Wednesday. i'm scared too but will not entertain thoughts that it may not work. Mum is trying to warn me it may not work but I'll deal with that if it happens. Deep down i know there is a strong possibility it won't work but a positive mental attitude has a lot to be said for. Join October cycle buddies thread and we can all support each other. Good luck!!

Linda/Leigh,

I start my IVF preparatory cycle today. I am terribly nervous too. For most people, it has worked in the first try. Hope it is the case for us also. Are you guys doing ICSI? DH's morphology is a little low. So, we are thinking of ICSI. This whole process is so stressful. Hope we can support each other.

re: 1st IVF try

Hi. I have just completed my 1st IVF cycle this summer and i can assure you that the injections do get easier. You will be amazed how fast you adapt to them, and how quickly they become part of your daily routine. I used to ice the area first for a few moments to numb it - then dry it, and then inject. Try and distract yourself immediately afterwards with something enjoyable, even something simple like a nice hot bath or crap TV show. The best thing is to KEEP CALM. Don't get your hopes up for the first go, it is unusual for it to work first time. I have been told this so many times. They say that 3 cycles are required for optimum chances. Be strong together, and don't do what i did and go crazy reading lots of books on IVF. I over - educated myself and too much information can sometimes be a bad thing. Relax and trust your body, it is designed for pregancy remember!
Best wishes

Hello Everyone

Post by Linda Wood »

Hello Everyone,

It's been a while since that last time I posted, I got a little discouraged because on the Nov site someone got a little crankey becuase I said the doctor told my husband and I that we where good canadates and I guess she didn't like that. So I decided not to write in for a while because like I said before I am all about positive attitude and support. I am not here to make anyone feel bad. I do believe a positive attatude but staying realistic is the key. I am still on the birth control for 4 more weeks then I start the 4 injections a day  I look forward to hearing all of your wonderful news and not so wonderful news so we can all support eachother. I am so happy for you Mandeeq, I am so glad they started you on the process. I love this website and I am so glad we have this wonderful tool.

Love,
Linda

Hi everyone. I am new to this forum, but I am glad I found it. These types of things are so helpful. Espeacially being able to talk to women who actually know what you are going through. Listen guys I am halfway there I have had my transfer :D I am now awaiting the results. Very intense. :? I had 2 blast transfered. The doctor said the Blast were beautiful and he also said everything went beautifully. That makes me even more nervous because of how he was saying everything went so perfect. Look don't worry about the treatment to get to were you are going. I am the biggest baby when it comes to needles. The point of the needle is so small, you have to put it close to see it. God will see you through it I promise. The only stressful part of this whole thing is the wait for the pregnancy test. Trust me everything else will seem like a breeze compared to the end.
Keep smiling  You are at the easy part.

Hey ladies,

I just had the iui procedure a few days ago, but dh's stats were so bad that the doc didn't give us hope. She's not even giving me the pregnancy test after the two weeks. Anyway, she advised us to go straight to ivf/icsi afterwards. Question, I know that lupron and syngeral (sp?) works the same, but why would some clinic prefer one over the other? I am the biggest wimp when it comes to needles. I had a hard time doing the trigger shot for the iui, I am not sure I can handle a whole of needles poking me. How many meds are needed? The meds that my doctor told us were Lupron, Repronex, Progestrone, etc.

Hey kcgal! Don't worry it is going to be okay. I had to take 2 shots a day . 1 in the morning when I got up and one in the evening. I was on 2 shots a day for 10days. Menepur and Bravelle. These 2 medications stimulated my follicles to produce multiple mature eggs. It was not bad. I am the biggest whimp when it comes to the needle! I promise you these needles are so tiny, you would not believe. The only needle that is big is the one you have to take after egg retrieval that is the progesterone. the reason this needle is big is because it is oil that you have to give yourself. The shot can only be done in the rear end  Not so bad though after the first one. You will get along great. The truth is, the most diffricult part of IVF, is the 2 week wait for a pregnancy test. Really. the shots are nothing I mean nothing compared to that waiting period! So you will be fine!!!!! Trust me. :D
