Hormones ,weight and hairs!

Post by souris »

Hi all,

i have a silly question to ask...
I did my first IVF/ICSI last April, and it seems to me that since the hormones injections:
first i put on weight, or actually, my body changed shape (more fatty around my tummy )
and second, I am a lot more hairy (yes, nice!), around my belly button, on my upper lip etc...

Is this normal or just my imagination??
Please help!

I have PCOS so am prone to the (very attractive) hair issue.

The cycle I did injections + IUI it was pretty out of control.

The next cycle we did IVF. It was not as bad.

Am currently 7 weeks pregnant after IVF - issue seems to have settled down back to what it used to be - pre-treatments

Oh, during the 2 rounds with injections - I definitely gained some weight.

Hi Souris

I haven't noticed the hair thing, but after 3 cycles I've definitely gained tons of flab around the tummy. Not Yummy !

I actually put weight on with clomid. I have never carried weight around my belly but at the moment I have quite a bit and I hate it! I'm not eating anymore than I was.

Hormones do = excess hair and weight, wouldn't worry!

Get yourself booked in for a lip wax.

Dont worry, Im sure it'll settle out in the end. xx

Hi souris
this is not a silly question at all! Hormones send our body rocketing back to those teenage years, so body hair and puppy fat are all to be expected. I had the added pleasure of teenage skin on the buseralin ( to go with the teenage stroppy moods!) so don't worry, just try and let it pass over you as an unwanted side effect. I didn't mind the weight gain too much, the extra flesh made the injections less painful! Take each day as it comes, and TRY and relax, this is the best thing for success!

Hi,

Just to add to the list of unpleasantries, does anyone else get really large spots when on the bcp??? Without being graphic, they are more like boils, leave nasty marks and take ages to heal......?

oh yes to the weight gain. I put my larger sized, normally loose jeans on today and was horrified to see they were tight. I usually wear a belt with them but not today:( I'm no twig at the best of times but my tummy is definitely bigger than usual. Not helped by feeling passive during the 2ww of course.

It WILL all be worth it ladies!

I USED TO HAVE HAIR GROWTH WEIGHT GAIN AND BELLY BULDGE, BUT SINCE I HAVE FINISHED MY CYCLE ( CANCELLED DUE TO OHSS,) I HAVE ACTUALLY LOST WEIGHT AND THE HAIR GROWTH HAS SLOWED. I HAVE STOPPED EATING REFINED SUGAR AND THE WEIGHT IS JUST DROPPING OFF. WOMEN WITH PCOS SHOULD NOT EAT SUGAR OR EAT (WHITE) CARBS. MY INSULIN LEVEL HAS GONE DOWN AND THEY TOOK ME OFF OF METFORMIN BECAUSE I AM CONTROLLING IT WITH DIET. I STARTED ACUPUNCTURE TODAY. THEY SAY IT WORKS AND I WILL DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO HOLD THAT BABY IN MY ARMS. HOPE THIS HELPS GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL....

Hi Lisamarie, you mentioned that you were on Metformin, what does that actually do? does it kinda control male hormones? Even after my bfp, my doctor asked me to continue with the metformin 3 times a day ... not sure if that is normal or harmful in anyway?

As for the weight gain and extra hair growth, I agree with all. Especially around the belly button (and around areolas)
