Hormones Levels...PLEASE HELP ME!!

Post by Babysoft »

Can anyone tell me some information about lh and/or fsh levels. I was suppose to start my IUI this month, but I went for my blood test this morning and my doctor just called me and told me we couldn't because my levels were too high LH 10.7 and FSH 37.4...I feel like getting in bed and sleeping for the next year or so...I just need some information :(

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME...I'M REALLY UPSET AND CONFUSED

I wish I could help, but I know that there are some girls here who have a good understand of what these levels should be and I'm sure they'll reply to you asap.

Take care and try not to get too disheartened.

Hi Babysoft ... I'm sorry you've had this disheartening news today. I know how easy it is to get dispondent. Pls - just try to take in the info, and then try to look at how the situation can be improved.

FSH. They usually take this blood test on day 2 of your cycle. Basically the results are as follows :

<6 Excellent result
6-8 Normal. Expect a good response to stimulation
8-10 Fair. Response between fair and slightly reduced
10-12 Lower than normal ovarian reserve. Reduced response to stims
12-17 A marked reduction in response
> 17 Very poor or no response to stimulation.

Babysoft ... There are no medications, but midwife Zita West explains that she believes FSH results can, to some degree, be determined by our lifestyle. There have been other threads on raised FSH. I'll go and find them, them bring them to the top of this Forum for you. Listed on the other thread/s are suggested ways of lowering your FSH. Zita West also explains that FSH levels can fluctuate naturally from one month to the next anyway. 'Simple' things like stress can raise your FSH. ...I beleive many clinics are looking for a level of 12 or less before they will offer an IVF cycle. I'll go and find the thread ...

Re the LH at 10.7 .... I'm afraid I don't know what 'normal' is. It seems though, that your dr is saying 10.7 is too high ? Again, according to Zita, raised levels may indicate PCOS (polysyctic ovary syndrome. PCOS is a chronic condition where the ovaries develop tiny cysts - accompanied by hormonal imbalance. PCOS also tie in with high levels of FSH. So, possibly, it could be that if you do have PCOS no amount of diet/lifestyle change (as I've refered to above) can make a difference.

Babysoft ... Did your doctor not give you any explanations or his thoughts on what action to take next ...?

I just called my doctors office again trying to get some answers. My levels were almost correct...LH is 10.7, but FSH is 38.4..they did tell me that the standard for IUI and/or IVF is 10. Judging by the fact that my FSH is 3x that level and way about 6 which is excellent...I'm losing hope on having a baby. Every place I've looked it says there is little to no hope without egg donation, which is an option I'm not willing to explore. I'm going to the doctor tomorrow morning at 8:50am so he said he will do some more testing. He said it could either be premenapaus or some type of antibody...I was kind of out of it so I don't remember exactly what anti he said. Thanks so much ladies for your responses. I will keep you posted.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL IVF'S, IUI'S & 2WW'S.

Hi Babysoft

I think it's appalling that people are given results (over the phone!) without being counselled on what they mean and the possible consequences. I'm really angry on your behalf.
I think everyone else has discussed the FSH levels. LH is usually measured on day 3 and normal range is < 7 mIU/ml. It sort of mirrors FSH

Please don't get disheartened - sounds like your doctor will be able to explain everything to you tomorrow and things will seem more clear. Lots of ladies on this board have been in similar situations - everyone here is really supportive. Lean on us!

Good luck tomorrow

Good Morning Babysoft,

I just read your post and wanted to tell you to not give up. I am in the same boat as you are and know exactly how your feeling. Last Dec they told me my fsh was 80  They also told me that my only option was going to be egg donor, something that is not an option I want to take either. It's been almost a year now and my levels have come down from 80 to 29, 28, 27, 22 and in August they were 15. They gave me tmt in August but unfortunately they had to cancel about 12 days into tmt. I had my levels tested in Sept but the were on the way back up 22. This lastest fsh test was very hard on me, especially after having been given tmt in Aug. I was hoping and praying they would be down again, but no luck. I'm slowly coming to terms with the waiting game and it's getting easeir to deal with the disappointment everyday, but it is very hard. I'm sorry I can't offer you any advice on how to lower your levels, or what you can do but I can offer you an ear to listen to when your feeling discouraged. Please take care, I hope the dr can give you some more advice when you go see him. I'll be interested to hear what they say. Last but not least, don't give up. Science, Medicine and Dr's are crucial to us all but you can't forget there is alot of unexplained in medicine and science. You just never know what can happen, and I've seen and heard of alot of miracles happening.

Follow-Up

Post by Babysoft »

Well I went to the doctors today and got some information on my test results from yesterday. There is really nothing that can explain why my fsh levels are so high  ...it my be antibodies fighting my ovaries or it may be an onset of menapaus....no clear answers. Which make me very SAD!! I'm really trying to be positive about this situation, my doctor said because I'm so young he doubts this will be a major factor..besides I found out that the drug I was taking (femara-letrozole) could also be a possible factor in my fsh being so high. Paula it is encouraging seeing how much your levels lowered over time....I hope you can get them at 15 or less...I've been told that 6-10 is the ideal number, but right now I'll settle for anything lower than 37  I know you said there was no medication you took, but did you do anything different to lower your fsh. I'm going to look online and see what is suggested and I have already made an appointment for acupuncture, so hopefully that will work. For now I will be waiting on my next AF and on day 3 we will do blood again and I will start clomid on day 5 and day 10 we will do blood again, so hopefully by then if I stay away from pop and eat healthy my levels will be at 5.9 (lol...don't I wish)

Good luck Paula...I hope your level drop and you start tmt with next AF.

Thanks for all the support!

Babysoft, I really hope that the drug you were on is the reason your fsh was so high. My clinic likes to see a fsh level of below 10 before they proceed with tmt but my dr approved tmt for me if I could get under 18. I know they've had success stories with women with the same fsh, but it's very rare. I'm just hoping and praying to be one of them. I think the thing that lowered my fsh the most was relaxing. I went on a month holiday to Canada and China and when I got back and had my fsh tested it was down. I had also been taking vit b, vitex agnus, folic acid and a multiple vit. I also quit drinking pop, but not totally. If I had a pop I would only drink diet. Another thing was I lost 18lbs, so that might have helped but then again who knows because the following month my fsh had started to rise. But I was really stressed out again, so in my head I truly believe that your fsh is affected by your mood and your environment. You need to be relaxed and you need to be positive, something very hard to do when you've only just found this information out. But I believe you can do it! Just don't give up!! You'll get there, I can feel a positive story coming from you in the future.

Thanks Paula. I am trying to be more relaxed, not letting all of this bad news get to me. I definitely believe stress has something to do with it, I mean this is a very stressful situation for me. Hopefully my new test results will give me some more information.

Thanks so much for the feedback and good luck with your levels going down. If I find any information or have success with any vitamins...I will let you know!

I babysoft, sorry to hear your results.

I cant help you with knowing what are the high and low's, but I got the following results last week and my doctor says they are fine. Still a virgin at all this, but while i was waiting for the results i read a lot about accupunture and its seems lots of people have found this has improved their results.

I had the blood tests on the 2nd day of my period
FSH 3.7 mIU/ml
ES 68 pm01/1
LH 1.39 mIU/ml

Good luck

Mandy
