Prgesterone Levels after FET- EMERGENCY QUESTION

Post by sleepyfoy »

Hi ladies... Something interesting has happened- not great either. Was wondering if ANYONE could offer advice about this..
We had a successful FET done in Aug and things have been going ok.. Sure I have complained about the progesterone shots , the estrogen patches and pills. We were suppose to discontiune the progesterone shots TODAY- the ever so smart clinic I go to said that by now, my placenta should be making the required amount of progesterone to maintain "Scrappy" ( affectionate name we call it because he/she is a FIGHTER) Anyway... my DH wanted me to get my levels checked before we stopped the progesterone shots- logical right? Well, my dr said she " did not advocate nor did she agree with us taking the test becuase my body should be making enough to sustain the pregnancy." Well... Took my blood test and lo and FRICKIN" behold.... We get 3 seperate phone calls to our house, my office and my cell phone from the Infertility Fellow saying she had to discuss the results with us ASAP. Come to find out my estrogen is 871( that is good) but my Progesterone was 28. Little low huh? They didn't have anything to compare it too so they looked it up in a textbook... "FROM THE GRAPH IN THE TEXTBOOK" my level at 10 weeks should be in the 90's.... WHAT THE ###$%#$? So according to them, I should have stopped today- WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF MY HUSBAND WASN"T SO INSISTANT???? I have to keep taking the shots and test next week...

Has anybody had to continue the progesterone shots longer than the 1st trimester? If so, how long? Can anybody help us?

Thanks for letting me vent in capital letters!!!

Peace out Ladies!!

Hi Jodi!

I can't help you, I’m sorry. But I just wanted you to know that I am hoping everything works out for you. :) I know exactly how you are feeling towards your clinic too. In case you don't know about my recent story, I was told we had a miscarriage and advised to have a D&C only to find out a week later we in fact still have a healthy looking baby growing inside me. We where devastated at the thought of our clinic basically aborting my pregnancy because of their stupidity or assumption just like in your case. But my husband, just like yours never lost hope and challenged every Dr. we saw. Bless his heart and your DH as well! :D I'm sorry to hear about such a close call and I do hope you go on to have a healthy pregnancy.

Take Care

And I hope you get the answers you are looking for and it puts your worries at ease. :)

Lisa!!
Could you possibly answer a few more questions for me. Do you know if your sister in law did shots everyday or if she had them weekly- did she get tested weekly? Gosh.. I am very upset with my clinic. They use to check the levels up until about 5 years ago then they decided that pretty much everyone's placenta was taking over at week 10 or 12. I am scared that I will lose what we have worked so hard to get. Thanks for helping...

I'll be doing a natural FET Nov/Dec and will be prescribed extra progesterone after 1 m/c and 2 failed cycles. I've been told that if I need extra prog., I'll have to take it about about 14 weeks or so.

Jodi,
I was on progesterone pessaries till my 12th week..then I was asked to take progesterone injections at the interval of 8 days each for 4 weeks..the first two shots were 250mg shots, then the last 2 shots were 500 ml/mg shots- cant remember that well..
But my clinic has assumed as well that my placenta would have taken over that time period- they haven't yet tested my progesterone levels.. now I'm curious if everything is ok with my levels too as they keep saying the baby is small..

Good Luck,I hope you get answers from your clinic.

Dancola!

Thanks for sharing. I am very worried about this. My Dr.( who is a Dr. at a well renowed medical facility- Duke University)had to look up in friggin' textbook- There is no treatment plan for me- I don't know what to do-I don't want to loose scrappy. I haven't talked to my husband yet who was suppose to call them today. I hope he doesn't burn our bridges.

Thanks again.]

Jodi - I'm sorry you've this worry. Thank goodness dh insisted - good on him. Smita's post shoud reassure you that this does sometimes happen, but maybe it's not that common. You made me laugh (although I know it's not funny) about the "friggin' textbook". Maybe it's that uncommon your doc hasn't come across it before. Try your best not to lose faith in him at this critical time - you need his support to get through this.

I've everything crossed for you that things sort themselves out soon.

I was told to take the pessaries until the end of my 12th week, then slowly wean myself off them as your body has to learn to produce progesterone by itself, eg go from 1 twicw a day to 1 a day for 4 days then 1 every other day, and I slowly came off them by my 15th week. I was told never to just stop as your body isn't prepared as its been helped along for so long.
At the end of the day if the progesterone is working I would keep insisting on getting it
Good luck and HTH

Hi Jodi

I just wanted to send you a big hug and thank you for raising this issue, as I am having ICSI with Donor eggs the whole process is the same as a FET. I had my m/c and asked our clinic of they should have measured Ostrogen and progesterone levels, as I was concerned that the meds I was given were "standard. They said no, I was being over cautious, no one did that.... I have had early menopause so all I have from the Oestrogen side comes from artificial sources, and also had progesterone.. was aslo told for 12 weeks.

This next cycle I am going to INSIST on monitoring those factors if I get pg, and thanks to your post will be very careful if I am lucky enought o get as far as you are. I also have had to Insist on extra monitoring for my thyroid problem - which was only discovered as I insisted on immune etsts after the M/c. Due to my research I found it carries a 30% increased chance of m/c - I have just spent months shopping around to find a Dr prepared to take that seriously, thank God I found one. So it just goes to show, that we must be brave and insist on 2nd opinions and extra tests. Its b***ger to know you cant rely on anyone. What the hell would we do if we didn't have the internet to check things out???? GRRRRRR

Thinking of you sweetie, and you just keep pushing for the right tmt. If in doubt change doctors.

LOve and hugs
