Has anyone considered Mexico for IVF?

Post by baby be mine »

Hi I was looking for some opinions and experiences from anyone who has thought about or gone to Mexico for IVF. We are going to go to Dr. GM in Matamoros in January. Please share thoughts and be VERY honest. Thanks in advance!

Hi,
I'm from Argentina (Buenos Aires) but for work reasons I live now in the USA (it's been more than 2 years)
Well, after 2 BFN IVF cycles here with one of thee "best" Dr in Saint Louis (Barnes Jewish Catholic Hospital was ranked one of the best hosp. here in the US) I'm considering for next time to go back to my country and try there with Dr Polak ( that I know is the best there and is very well known)
My sister in law had her first cycle with her and gor pregnant after 4 years of seeing some other Drs.
Here in the US it cost me 25000 for the 2 cycles, and I'm very disappointed with my Dr 'cause, even though he knew that I had an ectopic pregnancy 4 years ago , he didn't call for a HSG before the cycles and in the 2nd cycle , in the last day of the stimulation, by an U.S they found out that my left tube had a Hydrosalpinx. So the cycle turned out to be a 2nd BFN and all my money was flushed out the toilet!!!! The only thing that I've got after paying 25000 was a diagnose.
You can read about her (dr Polak) in the internet. And I already asked how much would it cost me and they said 3500 with medication included!!! The only thing about me is that I have a house there and I don't have to pay for a hotel.
Stay in touch,
Olina.

Thanks for the info! I haven't heard of Dr. Polak, but I will check into that one as well. Right now I am leaning towards Dr. Garza Morales in Matamoros. He is the only one I have really heard anything about, and so far it has all been good. I do have some questions about Mexico if you don't mind. 1. How much do the motels/hotels run? 2. Do most people there not speak english? Figured if it was mostly spanish spoken I should brush up on my spanish :) I have spoken with Dr. GM through e-mail as well as on the phone, he seems like a really nice man. I do know that if the IVF doesn't work the first time the price drops to $1800. The first cycle is about 2500 plus 1000 for meds..so it's about the same as Dr. Polak. How far into Mexico is Dr. Polak? Thanks again for the reply!

Hi Jaime,
I've never been in Mexico!!!! So I can't tell you about it.
Dr Polak de Fried is in Argentina !!!!!!!!!!!! the native language is spanish but many people speak in English there as a second language, so I don't think that would be a problem.
You can go to this web site and see her C.V

And about the hotel issue, I think you should ask them to provide you or recommend you one, since they might be more familiar with the foreing people comimg for the procedure, I mean they must have done it before.

i live in mexico, but am from ny. i have been going to a doctor here in merida and now thinking of trying ivf. i have spoken to many woman here and the best places seem to be in guadalajuara/mexico city or leon. but the best buzz is about guadalajuara (also very beautiful). i am thinking of doing it next month or january. don´t know if you have been to matamoros, but i have. it is really not a very pleasant place to be, to say the least. scary too.
i have had a fine experience with doctors here, they have all been fine. the price difference is so huge that i am just going to try it here in mexico before i go to ny. i pray i will be pregnant in the next couple of months and not have to do any of this!!! wouldn´t that be a dream.
good luck. melissa

I would stay away from going to Mexico. You don't know the quality of care they offer.

You can probably find a lower cost program in the US. I know my doctor (affordableIVF.com) now offers a lower rate that is about 1/2 of his regular rates. He has great success rates and we were very happy with him. He has a great reputation and has been doing this for years. He wanted to make it more affordable to the average person and agree to drop his rates.

You may look into that. It is in Orlando, Fl. Good luck,
