How Are All The Mom's Doing?

Hi Shell, this mummy is doing pretty well, I think! The 2ww has been tough. Toddlers don't understand not jumping on tummies do they? nor the bad nights with cold, wanting to be carried, lifted in and out of bed/car etc? DF works 3pm-midnight so lots of the lifting falls to me. Still....an ivf woman has to do what an ivf woman has to do.
All is well with us. Our temps have dropped suddenly and it's minus 3 or 4 right now (10am). Maya went off to kindergarten bundled up in the very practical and sensible clothing kids wear here. The concept of staying in because of the rain/cold doesn't apply. Kids play out in all temps. They say 'there's no bad weather, just bad clothing'. At kindergarten, the kids sleep in their prams outside, albeit in a large wooden shed - no heating, no carpets, no nothing except very well padded special sleeping bags made of canvas with a fleece liner and the quilt inside that. They'll do this all winter down to minus 15 or so. When it gets even colder, they'll move them indoors. All very practical, all very Norwegian. They're an extremely pragmatic, no fuss kind of people. Can't imagine what I'm doing here.....lol!
So...how are the other mummies? what are the new tricks from the babies?

I've been thinking about you, how are you and the gorgeous little Alex Mitchell going?, Alex must be two just about is he?
Annie is turning one in three weeks time, boy the last year has flown by. We are planning a BBQ breakfast in the park for her birthday party and have invited some of her (and our) friends. We are having it at 7:30 in the morning, it's just about summer here and it's a real scorcher, we thought if we have it early we can get out of the sun before we all burn too badly!!
Annie is soooo close to walking. She loves cruising around the furniture and has taken a couple of tentative steps usually towards us or the bath or the couch. She says "dada" and "book" (still no "mum") and loves her Eric Carle books in particular (the very hungry caterpillar and 10 little rubber ducks are her fave!!!). She loves feeding herself and thinks that food we try to feed her on a spoon is for wimps (brekky cereal etc). She has a loving, cuddly personality and loves waving and clapping her hands. She goes to day care one day a week and I'm back working between the hospital and my private practice which has aided in maintaining my sanity. I love Annie so much, but I do enjoy talking to big people as well!!
We have an appointment with my IVF specialist in November to talk "options" whatever they may be....

I'm keeping pretty well actually, I get tired running after Miss Boo, but she's fabulous, I love her to bits. We're off to swimming lessons today, we have a pool and love swimming, so we thought water safety would be a good idea. Does Alex do swimming lessons?

Hi, just wanted to add to the swimming topic. Maya only went a few times when she was younger, it's only now at 2 and a bit that she really enjoys herself. She'll jump in from the side, is happy to be thrown up and splash down, will hold her nose and duck under water etc. Before this she wasn't that keen and didn't really relax.
BTW, swimming here costs a packet. There are 2 pools in town. One very ho-hum, the other has all the slides, wave machines, 6 pools etc but it costs 18 quid/43 Aussie for the 3 of us!!! We still take her about once a month but still....
Bet you're looking forward to Annie's birthday party in the park!

$43 aussie dollars!!, boy!!, you guys are good to take her, she must love it! I must admit I was kind of in two minds about starting the lessons at this age. From a cognitive perspective I was unconvinced that she would actually retain the skills between lessons to build on them, I also have physio friends who tell me that it is their belief that neurologically babies aren't really ready to develop coordination in water etc etc etc..But I have to say, she loves it, she smiles from the moment we enter the swim school, she splashes the water and has even starting blowing bubbles in the bath at night (as she has been doing at the lessons). Sometimes I think I worry too much!!, she is a naturally very social little girl who loves the company of other children and adults (so long as she can see mum or dad of course!!), so swimming is a great way to meet this need. We also have the backyard pool and get quite concerned about her safety, so better be safe than sorry I reckon!

So nice to hear from you all and read the news about Maya and Annie. Debra, I followed your news on the other thread, I am so sorry it did not work out, but I really admire how positive you are and hope you will stay around on this board to chat about the lovely Maya! I love the sleeping outside story, my Danish friends say they have a similar habit, must be so good for their health! Bulgarians are wimps by comparison, our grannies recommend woolen cardies the moment it gets under 20 degrees but I don't do that of course with nadia and Alex.
I try to get them out every day, they love being on the bike with me and their dad, a very Ducth enterptainment....

I am so busy I sometimes cannot tell which planet I live on. Work and Nadia and Alex take all my energy, sometimes I feel ready to go to bed at eight after I have put them in. But they are getting funnier and cuter by the day so it's all so much worth it....

have to jump in and say that our little madi is nearly 2 also {march}, we gave her swimming lessons in spain this year and she loved them, even went underwater,{only i was scared}. but i am guilty of not going near the pool since we got back and dh keeps making little comments about how she enjoyed them. but i dont see him running off down the pool with her,

anyway, must go ,should be in bed, i am taking the mother-in-law shopping tomorrow and i need my strenght for that.

I think you cycled just before me, when I cycled Michelle was pregnant with Alex and about to give birth, but you sound familiar to me too. The pool sounds great but i would be scared too just watching them, my son's antics in the bath are bad enough to watch (trying to crawl through the water, biting it, trying to get up...). isn't it strange how mothers are more scared than dads? My dp is very relaxed and I keep being afraid of all the things that could happen to them!
my in laws were just with me for 2 days, I am very lucky with them, they came to help me with Nadia and Alex as dp is away. How is your mother in law? good luck with the shopping - hope it's also enjoyable!
I can never shop for very long with nadia and Alex, they just start making noise if we stop for too long, or try to grap something ... not a good idea...
