NHS - Infertility - BMI

Post by Pat19 »

Hi All,

Hope your all well.

Now I have a question to ask. I went to see my NHS Consultant a few weeks ago and he told me he can no longer help me regarding any tmt or investigations regarding my infertility, because my BMI is now over 30.

Apparently this is a new Law that came out in April 2005, is this correct ???, because I haven't heard anything about this at all. Pls Help me with any information you have on this matter. Thanks

Pat

Hi, I remember this coming up in April when the law changed so suspect what you've been told is right.

Weight comes up now and again with some clinics. I know that Welsh NHS clinics stick to the max BMI of 30. Someone also mentioned that the Bourn Clinic in Cambridgeshire told her at 5'1" that she had to weigh 12 stone or less before they'd treat her.

Good luck
Debra.

Hi,

I have just gone through a NHS cycle with a BMI way above 30. They treated me although they wanted me to get down nearer my ideal but because they mismanaged my ep i pushed the issue and so could continue. What i am trying to say is that they can treat you if they want. Maybe you should push the issue with them, if they didnt inform you how could you try to get near your ideal BMI? also have they done some investigations? seems weird to me if they have to stop part way through.

Wishing you luck, i know how hard it can be getting the NHS to help

take care

Love

Its a funding issue. My PCT won't fund anyone with a BMI above 28.
