All I can say is that its really quickly over. So better than any drawn out type of thing.

And information is power, they say the procedure is therapeutic, so having it done may help you to get pregnant.

And yes, it doesn't feel good. So if you can get your hands on muscle relaxants or tylenol 2, do so.

Good luck.

Lisa, I know this is easier said than done but the best thing you can do is relax and actually look forward to this as like Denise said, information is power.

I had a HyCosy a few weeks ago which is pretty much the same except they look at it all under ultrasound. They said I would feel mild cramping like period pain. I think you are aware that this procedure is painful so I won't lie, it was painful. However, it was only painful for about 1 minute as they put the catheter through the cervix. After that, it really was quite mild and I was more interested in what they were finding. I kept asking them what they were seeing, not only did this distract me, it also meant they kept telling me everything as they went along. The whole thing lasted just over 20 minutes I think, and like I said it was only really painful for about 1 minute. When that comes, my advice is take a deep breath relax your shoulders down and tell yourself that its okay. I did this and it helped.
Okay so after the test I had bad cramping for about 40 minutes. It wore off all of a sudden and then I was perfectly fine, just tired.
I have to tell you though, through all of that pain mentally I felt 100% better than I had in the weeks running up to it. Even though they found something wrong with me (PCOS) I now knew what I was dealing with. Since then I have changed my diet and feel like I know what I'm up against which makes it all easier to deal with.
Whatever they find (and remember they may find nothing) at least you will know and that is so much better than not knowing.
I felt exactly the same as you before my test. I told myself they would find all these things wrong with me. Funnily enough, when the day came I was relaxed and almost relieved that I was finally going to find out what was going on in there!

I bled for about 3-4 days after, not really heavy. Just to warn you as they don't always tell you this.

Paracetamol got rid of my pain. It might be worth taking 2 just before the procedure and then maybe after taking some nurofen. You will be fine. Even though it hurt, I look back on that day as a good experience.

Hi Lisa,

I had quite a few of these tests and what seems to work really good for me is I take 2 Advil about 1/2 hour before the test and the cramps are not near as bad.

Hope this helps. Good luck with the test.

thanks for advice all i have to do is wait till monday now.
my appointment is @10 in the morning so i dont have all day worrying bout it.

i know to a point that there is a problem as i had major surgery last year and had an tube and overy removed as the cyst was huge( 18 cm by 14cm) and had attatched it self to the other side and stomac and was stopping my kidney working by squashing the tubes.
the surgen said my insides were in a mess.
so on monday i will be finding out if the other side and womb are in a fit state
to go for ivf.
fingers crossd

thankyou for your help and advice

Hi just an update
Had hsg and wasnt as painfull as thort just discomfort.
The test went ok they put the stuff in and it only went as far as to fill the womb not the tubes the doctor said to one ot the nurses that there is resistance and its not going through.
she then orderd for another bottle of dye and then put more in and then all of a sudden the dye sort of splurted up and over in the tubes like it should have done before :D .
she (lady doctor) said i had a sealed/blocked tube at the top of the womb and by pushing the fluid through has opened it :D .
next step is to try for a baby as it looks ok and to give it a go now not blocked up:D

still down for more tests but sounds more promising now
