Polyps

Post by KTF »

Hi,

Had our first consultation today for MF. Consultant did a scan for me to check all was OK. He thinks he may have seen a polyp, although he did admit to being really unsure. I have to go back in 3 weeks when I am mid-cycle so he can have a better look.

He didin't seem to think it was anything to worry about, but that if there was one it would need removing before any IVF/ICSI could start.

Anybody had one of these or know anything about them? Think it is just a little skin tag?

Hi

The same thing happened to me. The poyp was actually picked up during my first IUI cycle (I think it was about 2cm). Anyway they let me continue with that cycle which unfortunately was a negative but said that I couldn't have anymore treatment until it was removed. The reason they wanted to remove the polyp is to ensure the womb lining is nice and flat and smooth as it is difficult for any embryo to implant if there is anything in the way. They also said that once the polyp had been removed my chances of conceiving naturally would be increased significantly.

I had the polyp removed under general anaesthetic and whilst I was under they done a full service and MOT and it was noticed then that I had scarring on one of my fallopian tubes so therefore I was recommended that IVF was my best option.

As far as I know a polyp is just a little scan tag and nothing to be concerned about. Had I not had scarring on my tube I may have conceived naturally once this was removed.

Wishing you all the best.

Karen,

Thanks for your reply. I guess I am not as worried now! More worried that is the next scan still shows something I will need the small op to remove it and this will delay the start of our first IVF cycle. :(

It would be nice to have a full MOT though. I wanted fully checking out but the consultant said there was no point because we are going for MF (failed vas reversal).. I asked about tubes and he said it doesn't matter because I don't need them for IVF. Would be nice to have my mind put at rest bu a full MOT though.

Good luck with everything.
