Conception during Down Reg????HELP

Hi,

I need some help please - has this happened to anyone else?

I am part the way into my second ICSI cycle. I had my down reg injection 2 weeks ago and went to have a scan today to check there was no womb lining so I could start injections tomorrow. To the nurse's shock, there was what looked like an embryo (about 4 weeks old)!!!! The consultant also thought the same HOWEVER, its not necessarily as good as it sounds because:

1. The nurse did a pregnancy test and it was negative (even if it had been an embryo that had died, I should have got a positive test)
2. She couldn't see a heart beat, and given it's 4 week size, she would have expected to see one....
3. I had a withdrawl bleed 2 weeks ago after stopping the pill and starting down reg (so could I be less than 4 weeks with a big embryo)
4. If it is 4 weeks then I got pregnant on the pill (which I took religiously in prep for down reg)

None of this makes sense unless I am so early in pregnancy that neither heartbeat or test can be detected, but them why would it be so large......?

The only other thing that was mentioned was a polip (piece of skin) but thats not likely as it wasn't there on the first cycle.....

In the meantime I have had bloods taken to see if they can detect anything there but I'll have to wait a day or 2 to find out.....

Please let me know if anyone has had the same with a positive ending....

this really is rather strange. But to be honest…if it is an embryo…at 4 weeks you can’t expect to see a heart beat. Heart beat is not normally detected until 6/7 weeks. I guess the nurse did a test with urine? That doesn’t necessarily mean anything. Really important are the blood results.

Sorry if I am not a big help here, but I haven’t heard of something like that before.

Sweetie, it does sound so confusing?

As Sally said 6/7 weeks is the earliest for a heartbeat. The only way to detect that is by a vaginal ultrasound scan.

I hope you get a positive with the blood test.

Thanks so much for the kind words - its nice to hear about the 6-/7 weeks although worrying that the nurse said 4.....?

Denise, thanks for the recommendation to pm Minnow - I have done it so will hopefully hear soon - do you know if everything turned out ok?
