Hey FET ladies.

I had my FET in Aug and it was a BFP! Yeah!! I know EVERYONE is different and each clinic is different- However.. I am going to share what is going on with me right now. Before my FET (1 week before) I had my estrogen tested. Not high enough so they put me on estrogen pills( I was already on the patches) Of course I was also taking the progesterone shots(Lovely).. Three weeks ago I was suppose to stop COLD TURKEY on my shots and my DH was insistent that the clinic check my estrogen a nd progesteone levels. Because of the medicated FET I skipped the Luteal (sp?) phaze that tells your body to make progesterone... He wanted to make sure I was producing it. Textbook wise they said from 10th week your placenta should be taking over and making the progesterone(you need that to sustain the pregnancy) My Dr. said." I don't advise it, I don't recommend it but we will do the test for you if it will make you feel better" Guess what ladies? My progesterone level was 23- My dr. did not know what to make of the results so she turned to a textbook which that said for someone 10 weeks, the level should be in the 90's. We continued our shots. Every Thursday since I have had my levels checked. Last week it was 33 so this week I thought to myself it will be higher. Nope dropped down to 21. My husband found info on the net saying average for this time frame is 17-141. Still makes me quite nervous. I am still taking the progesteron and I am week 13.. My IVF clinic refered me to a Maternal/Fetal High Risk Specialist- I guess to figure out what is best for me to taper or to quit..

Point being- You guys have come this far, have invested not only money, time, blood sweat and tears to let someone else decide for you without all the facts in place Not everyone will have this problem but a very small percentage of you might- you never know until you ask. I don't know if it is my age that has played a part in this(39) or if this is why I have never been able to get/keep pregnant. Talk to your clinics/dr and ask them what your level should be if you have a medicated FET. Every clinic is different so my 21 could be fine at your clinic- but it concerened my IVF dr to have it looked at further.

I am so happy to read of all the positives out there- Yeah for you guys Keep up the good work!!!

Sorry if this sounded preachy, But if I could pass on any infor that might preclude someone from a loss- that is my intention- It is your body- your baby- Be a pain in the ass and get all your questions answered.

Jodi,

Thanks a lot for this information. You're right, you can learn so much more from this type of exchange of info, and it helps keep you more in control of achieveing a successful pregnancy.

I'm still a little confused about everything, and everyone seems to have a different situation, so sometimes it can make me worry more! I don't think I am on medicated FET - I start taking Progynova from the 1st day of AF, and increase the dose every 4 days, and then start taking crinone from around day 16 & then the transfer on day 18. Apart from a scan to check the lining of my uterus, I don't have any other tests. I assume this is OK, but when I read how active other people's clinic are, I start to worry that maybe my clinic is just rushing me through.

Congratulations on your BFP - my heart skips a beat every time I read about someone on this forum getting a BFP! It's so exciting!!! My transfer is on Monday 7 Nov, and the test date on 23/11....so I have all fingers & toes crossed!

JODI,
THANKS FOR THE INFORMATION. I AGREE WITH YOU, I HAVE INSISTED THAT MY CLINIC DO TESTING AS I HAVE PCOS AND I AM ON METFORMIN, BUT EVRY 2 WEEKS I GET MY INSULIN TESTED. I AM NOT PLAYING ANY GAMES HERE.

BELLA,
THAT IS SO WONDERFUL. I WILL PUT YOU ON OUT LIST OF TESTERS.

I HAVE A QUESTION. I HAVBE BEEN GOING TO ACUPUNCTURE FOR 3 WEEKS NOW AND ALL OF A SUDDEN I AM BRUISING WHEREVER SHE INSERTS CERTAIN NEEDLES. ANY INFO.......

POSITIVE THOUGHTS TO ALL AND LOTS OF BABY DUST SENT YOUR WAY

Hi ladies. We had a BFN from our first IVF/ICSI in October. We met with RE today to review my cycle. They retrieved 21 eggs, 17 were mature, 15 fertilized, all divided. Embryo quality was very good. they transferred 3 very good quality, but there were some issues with the transfer (difficulty inserting catheter, and then one emby tried to sneak out). They don't think that was the reason for our BFN because they have had BFP cycles with such complications, but it certainly didn't help matters. Of the 12 remaining embies, 6 made it to freeze. As DH says, we have 6 little Han Solos (we are dorks). they keep them 2 per straw, and will thaw 2 straws (4 embies) and then possibly thaw the 3rd straw for a FET cycle. They would do unmedicated FET with me (yeah for cheaper options!) but I'm bummed that we really only get one legit shot at FET before we would have to go back to full IVF/ICSI cycle. They recommend transferring (get this) 4-5 embies with FET. Their success rates are 10% with tx of 2-3, 28% with tx of 4-5. Incidence of multiples is apparently much less with FET (although some of this info seems to contradict what I have seen on the CDC site with FET odds). So... when we are ready, I call them on CD1, we do a teaching visit on CD10 and then they do urine analysis to track hormones and schedule transfer. no injections. I do prog via crinone supps. so it will be a "breeze" compared to our IVF try. We don't think we will try until after the holidays... we would have one shot (my next CD1 should fall right before thanksgiving) but if we were to try and get BFN, I don't want that sort of news right before christmas. So, stress free holidays in terms of TTC, and then we'll get back on the horse after the first of the year. And we save our money, because there is a good chance we will have to do IVF/ICSI again in 2006 if the FET doesn't work. I'm having a hard time being optimistic about FET since we seem to just be getting bad news. i know I should be happy to have 6 totsicles. Hopefully 1 of them is the "one".

What are your thoughts on the number they transfer and their success rates? I just have trouble being optimistic right now, but the successes on this board are encouraging.

Thanks,
Marcie

Sorry Marcie for all our sorrows and troubles. Last year we got a BFN on Thanksgiving Day.. I drank mimosas after AF- and we had a BFN on the 27 of Dec. I went skiing ... You are smart to not do it during the holidays...

I had FET in Aug and they transfered 4 embies... Only one stuck- Scrappy. Do you know the grades of your embies? My first IVF failed with 4 embies in June. Not so much fun. I hope that everything will work out for you and your DH- it is a hard time especially around the holidays. Oh.. Last year we did IUI's ( all three failed) Surround yourself with people you love and spoil your self the best you can....It is hard to have positive thougths when you are going through this.

Take Care
