First attempt at IVF

Post by Lynned »

I'm 32 and my husband is 34, we have been trying for 4 years, had all the tests and a few cycles of clomid, I have endometriosis and my husband has a low sperm count, I am due to start the nasal spray the last week in June and would love to hear from anyone who has been through IVF or is about to go through it at the same time and maybe we can help each other through the tough times ahead.

Lynne
Hi Lynn

I too am having my first attempt at IVF/ ICSI this summer. We go for a meeting with the cons. on May 12 and will know then exactly which treatment to proceed with. should start our first cycle Jul/Aug so I won't be far behind you!

Have had numerous tests and they can't find anything wrong with me or DH, I am in the very fortunate position of having two lovely kids from my first marriage but that does not diminish the wanting and longing for a child with DH no 2.
I am now 38 so we are getting worried about our chances (been trying 2 years) but have faith that it will come right in the end.

I will keep a look out for you on the site, good luck with your treatment

Take care

Lorraine

Thanks for you responses, it is so comforting to know that there are people out there that know what I am going through, neither my family or my husbands family have had to deal with anything like this before and although they try there best, they usually get it wrong.
Good luck to everyone and thanks to Liz for the comments on side effects I hope I am as lucky.
I will look out for you all on the message board and post my progress. We are at the hospital on Wednesday for an open evening to met all the IVF staff and for a presentation on the process.
Good luck
Hi Lynned,

This is also my first attempt at IVF. Your situation sounds quite similar to mine. We've been ttc for about 3 1/2 years, it's unexplained infertility. We started on the NHS treatment and had all the tests but nothing showed up. Eventually due to the wait we decided to go private - thank goodness for the inlaws. Although when we had the test on Dh (hubby's) sperm, they said that he had a low motility (but nothing really to mention).

Anyway, I've completed the sniffing stage and have my final injection tonight. Like yourself, I was a bit apprehensive about the drugs. Clomid had an awful effect on me and I had to give it up after the first month. But these drugs have had no effect on me at all. I feel I've been so lucky, the only complaint I have, if any, is that I feel like a beached whale (your stomach sort of gets bloated at the end), but other than that, nothing. So don't worry too much about it.

My e/c (egg collection) is due next Thursday and e/t (egg transfer) on the Saturday. So hang on in there, it's really not so bad.

Any questions you need answered, drop me a line,

Heather B.

Thanks to Caz and Heather for your responses. Heather thanks you comments on the drugs have put my mind at rest a bit, hope all goes well on Thursday with your e/c, let me know how it goes. Caz your holiday sound like a good idea are you going somewhere nice. We had tickets to see Robbie Williams in Dublin but we had to sell them because the timing was all wrong, so I am a bit disappointed but hopeful soon I will have something better to look forward too.
Good luck to you both and hope to speak to you soon.

Hi Lynne

I just thought I would post to your post.

I won't be ur cycle buddy because I am now on the 2ww.

But to let you know you have found a great site here everyone is brill. I have endometrious and had it for coming up to 4 years thats what I know to anyway, and I was on Clomid for 6 months but it didn't work for me.

I really hope things work for you, I have had ICSI because of me having Endo and DH having low sperm count this is what they thought would be best suited to me.

Do you ever go on the Endo site? if you do you may know me under the user name of Zippy????

Love

Shell.
xx

Hi Lynne and everyone else.

I am 38 and have been ttc for 3 years. I am hoping to start my first ivf cycle in June. Have unexplained infertility apart from FSH being high, although it has dropped now to 9 which is OK. I have been warned I may be a poor responder to the drugs and am dreading having treatment cancelled. I am at Queen Mary's Roehampton. Like Lorraine I am lucky to have a son from a previous marriage but would dearly love to have a little one with Dh who has none.

Good luck to all starting IVF this summer....

Helen
