HcG Levels Not Doubling

Post by Anastasia »

My hcg levels are now not doubling. Very slight increase from my first reading. This means miscarriage to come or ectopic correct? Anyone out there with experience?

1st thing is to keep positive.......sometimes this happens and it balances out.

the other side of the coin is it could be ectopic or miscarriage.

Unfortunatly I have had bad experience where it was ectopic.i hope it's differant for you.

with ectopic there is NOTHING.....Nothing you can do to change it as it happens in the first 24 hours of the embie bedding in.

when do you go back for another blood test?

can you ask for an early vaginal scan ( done 5wks genstation onwards)?

sending you loads of love

I go in for another blood test on Thursday (two days from today). I worry about ectopic. I think I am too early for an ultrasound on that, but maybe by Sunday they will be able to tell for sure as that will be 5 weeks. Is there anything you felt when it was ectopic or was it just the scan?

1st ectopic....
i had really terrible morning sickness, some mild cramp pains....that went on until week 9 when i started spotting. scan saw nothing in womb so ectopic was diagnosed lost embie at 10 weeks. little JB we called him...

2nd ectopic....cause of 1st ectopic and early acn was recommended. At 5 and a half weeks they did a vaginal scan...did bloods 2 days later....then another scan at 6 and a half wks...again another ectopic. Only symptoms were mega morning afternoon and evening sickness.

Hope all goes well for you....any symptoms yet?

love

No symptoms at all. Spoke to nurse again. Plan is to go in for blood work again on Thursday if still increasing, but not doubling and no other bleeding then come in again two days later. Continue that pattern for about a week (if nothing changes, which they think if it continues like this, something physically (bleeding) will change) and then go in for ultra sound to see if they see something. If I go in on Thursday and I double my hcg level then I can feel better. They do not sound hopefully. I am trying to stay hopefull. :?

My first pregnancy had a low HcG number. They did 4 different blood draws and I never doubled. I think I started at 81. I did not have an ectopic pregnancy, though, but I did have a miscarriage. They called it a "chemical pregnancy". You'll find messages on this board about that topic.

You MUST wait until you get at least one more baseline. I'd make sure and ask for at least two.

Best of luck to you.

Hi Anastasia

My HCG was 52 on day 13 and then 81 on day 15, so obviously not doubling (or going up by at least 66% which was at least what they should be doing according to website info I found). The nurse at my fertility clinic wasnt very positive, said it could be ok or the embryo could 'be detaching', we just had to wait for the scan. I did do a couple of HPT which reassured me because they were getting more positive as time went on. I also got comfort from posts by Jen F (who had her baby a few months ago). She also had HCG levels which didnt double at one point.
Keep positive, I know what you are going through and I will be hoping and praying for you.

Anastasia..... I hope that you are trying to remain as positive as possible. "It's not over until it is over". That's my IVF mantra.
I have just recently had a similar experience with what you have described.

I got a BFP on 31st October, but the HCG level was extremely low. The doctor was concerned and told me to return in 48hrs for another blood test. It doubled but again the level was still dangerously low. I returned again after 3 days and the HCG level had dropped. The doctor said I was miscarrying at 5 weeks. I had had brown discharge the day before which then turned into red bleeding.

Everyone is different. I know it sounds easy, but I have recently been through this. You must try and remain hopeful.

I am thinking about you and hoping that tomorrow brings GREAT news.

The nurses did tell me that sometimes in early pregnancy the levels don't always double... may be your little one is taking its time.

Take care...lots of hugs...sending you PMA :)
