My Boy!

Post by Lucy36 »

Hi All

I have not posted much here for about 3 years but before that I was a constant poster. This site really helped me through 6 attempts at IVF with ICSI. I also made some fantastic friends (Tee, Alice, Michelle, Sandra)

IVF failed us and we moved towards adoption. Today we were told that we have a son. He moves in on the 5th December. We are over joyed he is absolutly wonderful.

It took us 7 years to get a family but we did it and we are probably going to have the best Christmas Ever.

Lucy, I am so absolutely delighted to read your news. I remember you being an "oldie" when I was a "newbie" (I think you might have been Lucy 33 at the time....) I'd be really interested to hear more, about how old your son is, how you have found it going through the adoption process etc. etc.

I think Christmas is a really hard time for those of us dealing with infertility, and I am so happy that you will have the best Christmas present ever.

With love and best wishes

Hi

Yes I was lucy33 - time just slips by.

Our Boy is 3 years old and he comes from the other end of the country to us.

He came from the national adoption register.

The adoption process is hard but then so is IVF so we knew we would we would get through it.

I constantly worried about my husband and how he would be discussing feelings and at times it was difficult but we made it and it almost felt like a challenge. We knew we would make good parents and if anyone was going to try and put us off they were stopping a little person having a family.

We certainly didn't have plain sailing with social services and during the assesment we have some somewhat heated discussions. But we remained absolutly true to ourselves all along.

Luckly for us due to are discussions with social services we asked if we could have a particular social worker who we felt was the only one that really understood us. He was and is fantastic.

There is something about adoption that no person will understand unless they have been there when you have been given the gift of a child.

Lots of people have asked me why not adopt baby and the answer is simple for me.

We couldn't have a baby and we had to deal with this. Adoption is not replacing what we could not have. Our son is his own little person in his own right and not a replacment for a child that will never be.

Yes we will still have times where a lump might come into our throat over not having a baby but thats natural after all.

Happy to answer any questions re adoption if anyone has any.

Take care all

hi Lucy,

Dee told me your news and like her I have not logged on for ages but was just so delighted to hear that you will have a little boy soon. Such fantastic news.
My little boy will be three in January and like Dee says, it's such good fun -I'm sure you will have a great Christmas and that you will be great parents.
I'm currently cycling again after a couple of miscarriages, the last after IVF, so we will see. Strange to be back here again after all these years but it's different now anyway. EC on Weds.

Am in touch with Dee and was with Michelle for a while - Dave still feels bad about an email he sent you all that time ago after which we lost touch - anyway we send you lots of love and wish you all the luck and joy in the world.

What is your little boy's name?
