I have asked some of these questions on someone else's thread but though I'd post it seperately as well.

I have my first appt with the IVF coordinator and nurse on Monday after having been referred to them by my infertility specialist. I am being treated as a private patient as my age, 38, excludes me from NHS treatment. I am half way through my current cycle and am due for AF on about the 21st May. The hospital has said that I can start IVF straight away. What I want to know is the following:

1) What to expect on Monday....should I expect a clinical exam or will they just go on my notes from the infertility specialist? Will they repeat any of the tests I have already had, particularly FSH as this could be an issue.

2) Assuming AF comes on time, what will the timescale be? Can I assume I will start down-reg drugs straight away or do you start them later in the cycle? When roughly will I expect to have EC and ET, asuming treatment produces some embies.

I am 38, have been ttc for 3 years, have no obvious infertility problems except for raised FSH sometimes. My cycles are usually 24 - 26 days long and I usually ovulate naturally.

Any info anyone can give me would be very much appreciated as I am having problems getting my head round this...it has all happened so quickly after thinking I was a hopeless case just a few months ago.

Thanks
Helen
Hi Helen!! Try not to worry too much, it's a lot better to just go with it and not get too stressed about the appointments as usually everyone is so nice at these clinics!! I would guess that your first appointment will not involve a medical examination, ours didnt it was just a chat and a chance to fathom out the best solution for our particular problem.

With regard to the timescale - there are varying protocols short & long but for me you count the first day of your period as day 1 and then start sniffing on day 21 and the sniffing for me takes approximately 10-14 days although this too can vary. Then the injections start when you have down-regulated sufficiently and again they take varying amounts of time to build up the follicle size (hopefully they do their job - our first cycle was cancelled at this point cos the follicles weren't big enough) For me it took about 9 days, then the hcg injection and egg collection 36 hours later followed by transfer 48 hours after this.

This is all approximate as we all vary, so what I said at the start of this posting - just go with the flow - really is the best thing to do!!

Wishing you lots of luck - keeping positive mentally is the most important bit and get lots of help from all the wonderful folks on this site!!

Lots of love - I look forward to hearing how you're getting on!

Jo. Hi Jo and thanks for the info. I agree with you that I should just go with it but am worrying over silly things like .."Will there be time for the first attempt before our holiday at the end of July?" etc etc. It is frustrating as we have come so far and want to get started now but could well end up having to wait until August because of the holiday!!!

Where are you now? Have you had a second attempt yet or are you waiting?

Take care
Love Helen
