How long before Beta is positive

Post by mrstucker »

This is probably the oddest question, so I"ll give some background first.

FET Oct. 5/05. Negative Beta on Oct 19th. Period came on Oct 21, and was pretty much like a normal period. (This was the third and final time we had transferred, I was trying to carry sister's babies).

Well, since we had given up on me ever being a surrogate, my husband and I celebrated on Oct 29th (first time we had been able to be 'together' in a while, due to all the attempts at carrying her babies).

Anyway, I'm now pregnant. Here's the odd part (please don't laugh or think I'm crazy, since I already do)

Is there ANY chance at all that this baby can be my sister's? I mean, is it possible for her little embies to have just taken this long to attach and start to grow? I'm almost too embarassed to ask my doctor! Can you imagine having to tell people 'yes, I'm pregnant, but I'm not sure if it's mine!)

Anyway, I'd really, really appreciate any comments or feedback.

Thanks in advance, and God bless.

Bless you, what a terrible dilemma. I guess if it was me I'd have a think about the options for investigating further. I woud definitely ask a doc - as you say - I know you feel embarrassed but there's no need to - it's not a stupid question at all. I would imagine that it's impossible for anyone on here to answer because we don't have the medical knowledge to know. I guess it sounds feasible (though incredibly unlikely) that it could be the ET but I would imagine it's far more likely to be a co-incidence

However - you need to consider carefully whether you actually want to know anymore. Were you trying to get pregnant with your sister's embryos for her or for you? I didn't quite understand sorry. If it was for you then maybe you never really need to find out - perhaps it's just one of those magical moments that you just go with and don't worry over how it arrived. At the end of the day, it's your baby however it got there.

But if you were trying to get pregnant to give your sister a child then maybe you feel that you need to find out for sure just for your owwn (and her) peace of mind. Certainly sounds like a tough situation to be in - very difficult for all of you but I wouldn't hesitate in seeing your GP. He / she'll be able to put your mind to rest.

Good luck and congratulations,

Quite a dielemma, poor you! :?
But can be easily solved by your ultrasonologist, who can tell you the gestational age of your baby, so if its abt a month old, then its definely yours..
I would think that since you had a negative beta (i assume blood test) plus you got your period, there is no chance of it being your sisters baby, but only your GP can clear this up..
Hope i didnt muddle you further..

Thank you all!

Thank you to those who replied...

I finally got the courage to speak to an embryologist about this. He spoke with some colleagues, and they've confirmed that this cannot be my sister's baby, and that this little bundle of joy belongs to dh and me!

Of course, my sister doesn't know yet that we're expecting, nor does anyone. It's much too soon after our last failed attempt at carrying for her and her dh to announce that kind of news. Even though it's a happy time for us, it might make her more saddened that I wasn't able to bring a child into this world for her. She's now trying to adopt, and I pray she finds a baby soon...

Well, wish me luck with this pregnancy - I already have two children (ages 16 and 2), and am hoping for a boy this time (2 girls already), but will be thrilled with a healthy girl, too :)

Good luck to all of you lovely ladies in your endeavour to become mommies....I wish nothing but the best for you, and pray for you every day.

God bless,
