It is so great finaly to have the right to participate in this type of forum! Here is my question - in every possible book it is written that the only safe position to sleep is on the side. And I used to sleep always on my back. However I'd sleep stading on my head if it is necessary , so I'm trying to keep myself on the side, and the sleeping is not going very well . Did somebody experience similar problems? If yes - did you try body pillows - does it help?
Thanks,
SaraS

Hi Sara
The best position is on your left side cos of blood flow to placenta, digestive system etc but my midwife did tell me that sleeping on back is okay as long as you are not flat (ie have 2 pillows under upper body). I sleep on my left side as much as poss but I was finding I often would wake up to find I was on my back! I've started using cushions to keep me in a better position. You can get special pillows but I just use ordinary cushions - I put one behind my back to stop me rolling onto it and I put one under my right knee which normally overlaps my left leg when I lie on my left side - no particular reason - just find it more comfy than knee straight down onto bed. Hope you find some comfortable answers - getting to sleep has certainly turned out more problematic than I was expecting!

thanks for comforting answer. I'll try your advise to put a pillow behind my back to prevent rolling onto it. The problem is that after a while my lower hip becomes so sour that it wakes me up - there is definitely not enough meat over the bone to cushion it . So I need at least switch side to right - which is quite cumbersome with all pillows around.
Not that I'm really complaining - those are so happy worries and happy nights - I'd rather have 1000 x sour hips than 1 failed IVF again ...
thanks and good luck to you,

My bed has been full of pillows since early pregnancy, I couldnt do without them! Although they dont completely stop my sleepless nights, they certainly help. I have a V shaped pillow. (Which Im also planning on using after the birth for nursing the baby) I place it on top of my usual 2 pillows and curl it round my back to help keep me on my side. I also have a double sided pregnancy pillow to support my bump and a pillow between my knees which helps my lower back. I think its worth spending to be comfortable!
All the best with your pregnancy!
