Hi everyone.
Just thought I'd pop on and tell you guys what baby items were "life savers" for me and my little one. Someone on here was asking for suggestions.
I bought the Fisher Price Natures Touch swing and wow is it incredible. I'd say it started becoming really handy after about 2-3 weeks. It puts her to sleep in a heartbeat. LOVE IT!
Another good item for sleeping and calming is a simple exercise ball. Most babies love the bouncing up and down, and it's easier for mom and dad (vs. walking and bouncing). Another plus is that you can easily move it from room to room. Someone recommended I buy it and I thank them every day.
The same person also recommended disposable multi-use pads for the changing table. You use them on top of the changing covers and they are just the best. Sure beats washing the covers all the time (you'll come to learn that saving on laundry whenever you can is essential). I also keep a few in my diaper bag for emergencies. I buy mine at Babies R Us here in the states. The company Especially for Baby makes them.
One last item I love is the Baby Bjorn carrier. From what I understand not all babies love this, but mine did. I think the key is putting them in it earlier rather than later. I started putting Hannah in ours when she was 3 weeks. It keeps them close to your chest and nice and warm. What's even better is that it frees up both your hands to do other things. Now that she's older and heavier it's a little bit of a strain on my back, but I still prefer it to the stroller any day.
Well ... hope you all are enjoying the 3rd tri! Wishing you all speedy, pain-free (yeh right) births =) But mostly wishing you healthy babies!
Hugs,
Kelly

Kelly - Thanks so much for the suggestions. I was happy to see that we registered for many of the items you suggested.
Just an update -
DH and I had a co-ed shower thrown for us this past weekend. It was such a great time and I was glad my husband could be part of this special occasion.
We finished our Lamaze classes this weekend also. We decided to do the all-in-one weekend class. It was probably the most helpful class we have had yet. The neat part was getting a tour of the hospital and rooms. Starting to become very real.
My belly is not huge, but it looks like a swallowed a basketball. I'm sure the weight will continue to pile on for the remainder of the pregnancy.
Hope everyone is doing well these days and getting the nurseries ready. Such an exciting time.

Just checking in to say hello and to wish everyone well!
I just had my 39 week update today and I'm 1cm dilated which is pretty normal for this stage. Does not mean labor is on the way. I'll be checked again next week and will have the plan of action discussion then as I'll be close to 40 weeks. It's gone by very quickly and we're getting pretty excited. The labor part makes me nervous, but I think it's pretty normal for a first time mom. If I don't go into labor by Dec 9th, I will be induced.
Well ladies, best wishes to all of you and can't wait to hear your special news in the following months. Take Care!

hi all,
it's lovely to read about how you're all getting on and good news Christing that you have initially started to dilate. i didnt realise that this happended ahead of labour. it was also brilliant to read about some of the most helpful baby items to get as it really is overwhelming.
we have actually bought or ordered most things now which is very exciting as they start to arrive. we have started a bit early perhaps (32 weeks) as i was concerned with xmas coming and a house move in 2 weeks to cope with. it's nice to feel we are starting to get organised at least! how is everyone else getting on? it's an expensive business.
i also wanted to check out something with those of you around the same stage. i am getting period-like feelings although they are very mild on and off. it just is something i am aware of. like a dull ache but really very mild and not actually painful. are those braxton hicks and is it quite normal? for some reason i have got it into my head that this baby will come early so i am aware of every twinge!!
hope you're all amking yourselves as comfy as pssible. i am all too aware i havent been doing any pelvic floor exercises yet and as for perineal massage..... not over excited about that!!
take care and look forward to hearing how you all are at this exciting time.

Start downregging for 2nd cycle on May 2nd. natural conception discovered May 12th. OMG!
I cant believe that im only 7 weeks from my due date! It seems scarily close now!
Kelly - Thanks so much for your advice on what to buy. Any tips are gratefully recieved! Theres so much out there, its hard to know what to get sometimes! I hope you are enjoying every moment with your little one!
Sher - Glad to hear you are doing well and enjoying this exciting time. How are things at work for you? Have you decided when you are finishing?
Christine - You are nearly there! Hope all goes well for you and you dont have to wait until 9th Dec to be induced! How are you feeling physically? Are you needing to rest or having you got the nesting instinct and cleaning and preparing lots?! All the best!
Minnow - Im going to have to start seriously shopping soon! This is my last week at work (Hooray!) so at least from this weekend can start to get sorted. I dont want to be doing it all when im really huge! My plan is to get everything before the end of the year (Including getting the house sorted!) and then try to relax the last two and a half weeks. My mum laughed when I said that I was planning on relaxing the last couple of weeks. She obviously knows something I dont!
Ive not had any braxton hicks that I know of, but I think they are a tightening sensation around your abdomen. I have occasionally had mild period type pains,(low down) but not very often. I do remember at my NHS antenatal class a midwife asking if any of the ladies later on in pregnancy had period type pains and this could be due to the baby's head engaging. (I think - dont quote me on that, Ive heard that much info its hard to remember everything!). I really need to start concentrating on pelvic floor exercises as well now!
Went to the 2nd (and last!) of the NHS antenatal classes last night. We are also doing NCT antenatal classes every Tuesday evening, since 2 NHS classes didnt seem enough. Last night the class was run by a Health visitor and was called EDAB (Early days after birth). I found it really interesting and helpful. We seem to concentrate so much on the pregnancy and birth, it was nice to have this class. She was saying that we are basically convalesing (sp?) for the first 6 weeks and should just concentrate on ourselves and the baby. If anyone asks if they can do anything, get them to help with the cleaning not hand them the baby and do it ourselves. She said she had seen so many women try and continue as normal in the first 6 weeks and then are literally hit with exhaustion at the end. Im intending to take her advice!
Take care everyone!

That is good information as I always like to do things myself around the house. I wish I had that class for the days after having the baby. Everything I had focused so much on the labor, breastfeeding and car seats.
I will be leaving work on Dec. 23 and returning since my schedule (and bosses) are inflexible. I'm looking forward to that Friday and only wish I could have a bottle of wine to celebrate, but ginger ale will have to do.
My belly seems to be getting bigger by the day instead of every two weeks now. Lots of baby fat going on I guess.
I too have not felt Braxton Hicks contractions. I guess they say that you may not feel them and sometimes they could be confused with baby movements. It is encouraging to hear someone else mention this as I was curious.
Looks like many of us are getting close and I would do it all over again!
Best of luck to you Christine!

It's so nice to see how well you are all doing! I greatly appreciate all the good thoughts! I'm working right up until the big day. I have a couple of vacation days I hope to take within the next week to have some relaxation time. Tom and I have been busy getting the baby's things ready and the house clean. Since we could go at any time we are trying to be as prepared as possible.
I haven't been feeling any contractions and every week I have been hooked up to the fetal monitor and the baby's activity level has been great. So I go again tomorrow for my almost 40 week checkup. I"m curious to see if I've dilated anymore. I've gotten a bit uncomfortable with my back and pressure in the pelvic area, but these are very normal feelings. Plus the swollen feet and ankles. The phone calls have started from friends and family checking in on us. This will be my parents first grandchild and they are quite excited. We lost my only brother in a car accident a year ago and this baby is the best news we could all have asked for.
Well I hope you all take it easy but prepare as much as you can since as all my friends have told me to do it now since the lack of sleep once the baby is here will keep us from getting those things done. Take care ladies! I'm so thrilled to hear from you and how you are all doing.
Love,
Christine

hi all,
just read your posts and glad to hear that all is going well. fingers crossed for you Christine especially as things are imminent!
just a quickie from me as i'm having to take things easy. not a good week really. car broke down in london on sat night and we had to be towed back to ascot, which wasnt so bad as we got priority treatment when they knew how pregnant i was. nevertheless, we have hardly been out for weeks so it was a shame.
then the period like pains and the supposed Braxton Hicks which i had been having continued and increased, with the result that i was admitted on monday evening into hospital for them to check things out. when they monitored me they found that i was actually getting contractions although they werent regular. as i was just coming up to 33 weeks they had to give me two doses of steroids to help the baby's lungs mature should it be born early. i was also given some drugs to hold off labour for 48 hours so that the steroids could get into the baby. i hadnt dilated at all so after 48 hours there i was free to go home as things had seemed to settle down. they seemed to think that as long as i could get to 34 weeks, they then wouldnt try to stop labour. i am still having the odd twinge but no more of the actual contractions which is a relief. i think now that there is no indication that i will go into labour early - knowing my luck i will end up being induced at 42 weeks!
it was not the best experience, but in fact far worse for my husband who is a gp and i guess much more aware of all the risks. it was weird to be surrounded by so many people in the throes of giving birth or being induced and going to sleep at night to the sound of newly born babies.
i was thrilled to get out, but as luck would have it our newly fixed car broke down again on the way back from the hospital so we ended up getting towed again!!
all we need now is for something to go wrong with our move next thursday! luckily i have lovely parents on hand to help us with it.
back to bed for more rest, but will catch up soon.
take care all.

Minnow-
I hope you are feeling better now and making the most of resting after all your traumatic experiences! Thank goodness things seem to be ok with the baby now. A woman at my NCT antenatal class who, funnily enough has the same due date as us, 17th January, also thought she was going into premature labour last week. She started off with a lot of bleeding and contractions. They kept her in hospital for 3 nights and all is ok now. She did say how well they were looked after and couldnt praise the hospital enough, which is reassuring to know, as we are also using the same hospital. Anyway, lets hope all our babies hold off until at least January, although the likelihood of them all coming on the same day is probably pretty unlikely! take care of yourself.
Smita - Welcome to the third trimester! Its great when everyone starts catching up and we are all on the same thread again!
Christine - your ticker says 40 weeks, so I hope you dont have to hang on much longer! Good luck!
Ive finished work today! Everyone was really nice and spent more than what I expected on me. I was quite overwhelmed.
Ive started this week getting rib pains and feeling quite uncomfortable higher up. I also have to stand up sometimes when Im getting prodded or kicked as my ribs hurt so much when im in a sitting position!
Hi to Sher, Gen and Gavin and Susie - hope you are doing ok, not heard from you for a while, Susie.
Little P - See you here very soon! Im sure you qualify now after 26 wks!
Take care all

Congrats on finishing work - at least now you can take some time out to relax a bit more. I do hope that the pains don't leave you too uncomfortable.
I will officially be coming over here at 28 weeks. All the info I can (bar one) says that the third trimester officially starts at 28 weeks so I shall wait till then.
Big hugs to you all - and Christine, fingers crossed for you.
