Hi there

I'm not from Ireland, but just wanted to say hi and welcome you to the site.

Good luck with the treatment in January - will keep everything crossed for you.

Hi K

I'm from Sligo in the Republic but have been living over here for 17 years now. There are some ladies on here from the North. I hope to be cycling again in the new year too.

There is a thread for people cycling in the new year hope to see you there.

Best wishes, Pauline

Hiya K

I'm from Belfast myself. I went thru my first IVF in Aug/Sept and was very lucky to get pregnant first time - with TWINS!!!!! This message board is a lifeline. You'll get loads of info and support. Feel free to ask me anything and I'll help you out if i can.

Thanks girls for the welcome :o !

Bonbon74 congratulations with the twins, well done!!

We haven't technically been told that we are starting the IVF in January but we were told that we were top of the list and should receive word in November!

We received a letter on Saturday (registered post) to go for an appointment in December and I am worrying why they registered that appointment (any other appointments we received just came 1st class)?

Did that happen with you? Am I worrying for nothing (have it in my head that they are going to tell us bad news)!!!

Haven't a clue bout the registered post thing. Don't be worrying about it though. We had our first appointments privately and then changed over to NHS so it may just be something that they do.

Thanks for replying Bonbon! I know that I am probably worrying unnecessarily, but your mind still works overtime!

When do you start the sniffing and injecting? How long do you S and I for? How did you get on with the S and I, any problems? Also one other question (sorry), did you take any vitamins, folic acid etc?

Sorry for the questions but I don't know anyone who has been through this  !

I got out my schedule to check time scales cos i've forgotten already!! I actually took the drugs in April but was at risk of hyperstimulation so they froze our embryos and the I had frozen embryo transfer in Sept.

You sniff for roughly 5 weeks, after 4 weeks of the sniffing you start the injections. These last 10 days after which you are scanned and follicle size is checked. If all is well you stop sniffing and take a big injection to allow the eggs to be collected about 36 hrs later. I had no probs or side effects with the drugs and the injections are fairly painless. I was just sore after egg collection, but thats only to be expected.

To be honest, hubby and I didn't find the whole thing as stressful as we had imagined. If I can help you with queries I will, don't be shy!

Thanks for that, I have read everything possible that I can, suppose nothing really prepares you. I'm not really worried about the drugs parts, just worried about the EC, asked them could I be knocked out  , I know that I will get myself worked up.

Just can't wait to get this next appointment to see if they will be starting me on the drugs over Xmas!

Another question  ! (Sorry) When you start the drugs, do they work it around your AF, ie. start of AF/after AF/during?

Hi K

You start the sniffing on day 21 of your cycle. If I had to do it again, I'd def be knocked out for EC. It was absolutely horrendous. I was clueless about it. I knew it wouldn't be a picnic but didn't realise just how bad. SORRY!!! But sure its all worth it to get the precious end result.

Thanks again Bonbon, Doc told us that they give you a drug that semi knocks you out, but you can still feel pain  , I'm not too good at pain and asked could I be knocked out, hopefully they will be able to do that :!:

If I think of anything else that I have concerns over, can I ask you, don't want to "hound" you??!! Its hard when you don't really have anyone to talk to about this treatment!

I totally understand. I didn't know anyone who'd been thru IVF and I only found this website after ET. Ask me anything you like, you aren't hounding me. I wish I'd had someone to question when I was going thru it all. Everyone on this board will give you different opinions on things and its great.
The drug that they give is meant to make you feel relaxed and sleepy but it made me feel out of control and so I think I fought it. You might take to it differently.
