Vanishing Twin? Or is doc trying to make me feel better?

Post by Kimberly »

This is my 3rd IVF cylce and I am very paranoid. I have had three previous miscarraiges so my doctor is monitoring me very closely. Last week we had a scare when my betas slowed way down and the doctor said that he thinks I had a vanishing twin. I don't think there is any proof of that and I am scared that I am going to miscarry. Here are my Betas:

11/15 ( not quite four weeks ) 33
11/17 ( four weeks pregnant ) 98
11/19 287
11/23 ( four days later ) 767 * should have been higher
11/25 1236 * still not quite doubling
11/28 (three days later ) 3130 * more than doubling!!

So as you can see, my numbers seem to have caught up but I am wondering if this is going to end in miscarriage? We had our first ultrasound at 5 weeks 4 days and all we saw was one sac. Has anyone had an ultrasound this early? If so, what did you see? I am worried becasue we saw a sac, but that was about it.

Any thoughts?

Smita-
Thank you very much for the words of encouragement. I am going to the doctor on Monday Dec. 5 to hear a heartbeat. I will be 6 weeks 4 days by then. The most difficult part about all of this is the waiting.
Congratulations to you! It looks like you don't have much longer to go!
Take care,
Kimberly

I too didn't see heartbeat at 6 weeks - only sac then had heartbeat at 8 weeks. Can't help on beta levels because I never knew mine but yours sound great. Good luck with your pregnancy
