Pregnant with Twins

Post by JayfromQld »

Hi everyone,

I thought i would restart the twin pregnancy thread as the other was very long with outdated posts.

I hope i havent offended anyone.

I think its a nice idea to have a Twin Pregnancy thread even though things arent that much different so far compared to my singleton pregnancy.

I am 19 weeks tomorrow and going for my 20 week scan. We will be finding out the sexes and are super excited. With my DD we never found out the sex and it was a wonderful supprise but its fun to try both ways.

I think i have been feeling some knocks and taps on the inside, but i have an anterior placenta so that takes away a lot of feeling, I am messuring 9 weeks ahead and i have a lot of aches and pains, i want to run to the midwife and beg for a scan or heart beat check everyday but i force myself not to. I can go 1 week after a scan/heartbeat check before going crazy with worry, so far i have been able to wrangle something every 2 weeks and thats helped, after this scan, i have my next ante-natal clinic in 2 weeks but after that i cant see getting around the next 4 weeks until my next clinic. Hopefully the babies start moving by then so they reassure me.

To all the other twin mums-to-be who feel like posting please write a bit about yourself and how your pregnancy is going and any worries or interesting things you have noticed so far.

cheers

Hi Jaymee

I know what you mean about worrying! I had scans at 8, 11 and 12 weeks and then my next one was not due until 18 weeks. I was having some aches and pains earlier this week (I’m currently just over 16 weeks) so I went to the midwife. She booked me in for a scan the next day. It is such a relief to see them and they have grown and developed so much in 4 weeks! From what I saw they seem to move A LOT, however I dont think I have felt them move yet. My twins have separate placentas one is anterior and the other posterior.

I have been very lucky so far, I have had no morning sickness or any other problems – I have had no cravings and I have a DH that looks after me! We have no other children.

We have decided that we don’t want to know the sex until they arrive. I have an appointment with the consultant for the first time next Wednesday and then my next scan is on 15th.

Best wishes for your scan tomorrow. Would you like boys, girls or one of each?

Take care
Ange

Hi Ange

I think a boy and a girl would be perfect, i have had a feeling even before i was pregnant that i was having 2 boys though. I have a 5 yo daughter and my deepest desire was to have more daughters, because she has been such an amazing gift and truely a mummy's girl. But now i hope for at least one boy or even 2 :). So now i can truely say i would be happy with any combo. My hubby says these will be our last as he only wants 3 children, i always wanted 4 :). Do you have any feelings about the sexes of your twinkles?

I also had no morning sickness or cravings, with my daughter i was quite sick, i have read that girls can make you feel sicker, but who knows?

Are you going to have a natural birth? My husband really wants me to have a c-section, i really wanted to try naturally as my daughters birth was very scary and hard, although it was a vag birth.

I really wanted having the twins to be a spiritual birth and really empowering but my husband has such fear i will settle for the c-section.

I am glad your scans have gone well and i think its fun to wait for d-day to find out the sex, but i am also totally excited about finding out today.

Anyway i better go, its my daughters last day at school and i still have to do her hair.

I will post after the ultrasound and update

Thats fantastic news - the perfect combination!!

I have no idea what mine are although like you, I think the perfect combination would be a boy and a girl.

I want to avoid a c-section, if at all possible, but a friend said to me recently "you dont want to have to give birth twice in one day!!"
Friends aren't they just so wonderful!! Always on hand with some kind of inappropriate anecdote!

My DH has not really expressed any opinion about the birth (I am not sure he is seeing that far ahead!) - he is still a bit supertitious about things and although he has accepted I am PG he is still so worried that I am going to miscarry. I turned over in bed this early this morning and groaned (the usual full bladder!) He was up and out of bed fussing over me! I am very happy that he is involved and interested I just wish he didn't get so uptight about every little twinge. Bless him!

I am off now to do some xmas shopping! I am not looking forward to the shops this time of year, but hopefully going today I might avoid the worst of it!!

Hope your daughters last day at school went well! Is she off now until after christmas?

Best wishes
Ange

Hi Guys,

Can I join you? I am not as far along as you guys but I am definitely having twins!!

I am 9 weeks pregnant with twins at the moment. I had my second scan yesterday and it still showed two sacs and two heartbeats going strong :D

I didn't want to post before this as I was convinced I had lost a twin (even though there had been no bleeding or any signs of this). Maybe I was in denial, but am now beginning to realise that it is true! Unfortunately we could not get a picture of the twins together as they are positioned behind one another at the moment, so maybe that is why I didn't believe it.

I think that I will find out the sexes as I already have a ds and so if they are girls would have nothing in!! I probably won't tell people though, as I like to keep people guessing!

At the moment, I am feeling quite bad as I have a stinker of a cold and a nasty cough which is pulling all my ligaments! I have been sick a bit ( I was with ds as well) but really tired!!! The cold has made it even worse and so am not feeling my usual positive self at the moment and am very tearful(hormones I guess). Please tell me it gets better soon :? I keep telling myself that this is what we wanted so I can't understand why I am complaining!

Anyway, sorry for the moan and the long post! I am usually a very cheery person :D . I am not a regular post-er as I don't always have access to the PC but I often read whats going on and you will hear from me every now and then.

Hope you girls are all OK,

Anna

Hi there!

I have not posted for an embarrassingly long time and am glad to read your messages and would love to join you all for a chat.

I am 33w 2d with twins - our first babies. Life has been hectic to say the least for the past 4 months with various things happening and the wee ones have just been hanging-on-in-there doing their thing. I think they are going to be a couple of rascals judging by the frequent boxing matches that seem to be happening inside!

Our hospital have a policy of not telling you the sex of the babies unless there is a medical reason. I wouldn't have wanted to know anyway as for us it makes no difference.

I now starting to get pretty uncomfortable and basic tasks are now such an effort. I puff and pant like a lifelong smoker (never smoked in my life) just putting washing in the machine - how pathetic is that!!??

I feel like Mr Blobby and DH commented the other evening that I sometimes have "that PG waddle" when I walk. People say I am "all to the front" and from behind you wouldn't know I was PG - there is certainly no doubt when I turn sideways!! I'm not sure how much more my abdomen can stretch to be honest.

Twin 1 is in breach position with its bottom nicely positioned on top of my bladder, which wasn't the strongest pre-PG at the best of times! Twin 2 is cephalic and I'm sure it's wee head gets kicked on a regular basis by its more boistrous sibling! I get my 36w scan on 19/12/05 and we will all sit down and discuss what method of delivery will be safest. If twin1 still breach then def C/S in week 38 however if lead twin cephalic I will be left to the forces of mother nature.

I have been pretty fortunate with regard to morning sickness - as long as I eat regularly I've been fine and of course I'm happy to do that with no problem at all !!

Sometimes when I'm at the toilet for the 4th time overnight to pass a tablespoon volume of wee I feel fed up but then I remember how lucky we are to be blessed with our 2 little babies and think "bring on all the joys of pregnancy - i'm loving it!"

I think we've been a bit laid back with our preparations so I had a trip to Mothercare on Monday and bought a few essentials ready to throw in a bag. Do you know you could get easily get sucked into spending a fortune on a whole load of paraphernalia that is completely unnecessary. Anyway it feels good to know that they'll at least have a vest and a sleepsuit each to come home in.

Well that's the man at the door with my first online supermarket shop so I should go and see what's what - if all goes well I'm planning not to have to introduce the babies to the 'joys' of food shopping for quite a while.

Hope you are all keeping well. Chat soon.

Welcome AJ and Maci!

Thankyou for posting in the thread, even if people dont have much to say or much time on the net its nice to have a support group we can post questions to if we have something new happen.

Its my daughters last day of school until next year when she is in year one. Shes really growing up, i used to really panic every year she grew and feel like she would be gone too quick, but since this pregnancy i have been able to enjoy her age more and more, safe in the knowledge it wont be the last time i have a child those ages. I had a miscarriage from my first attempts at ivf last year, i had a BFN on my ivf and positive on my next FET, but i miscarried that was the most terrible time and i had to have a year off.

What about you guys how long has it taken you to arrive at this pregnancy?

My husband also has been very helpful but he wont let me get out of bed most of the time demanding that i bed rest, not have any chocolate (caffine) or any of the other half heard things that he thinks i should do to protect the babies :). But he is also doing all the Laundry, washing up and vacuming so i am really thankful.

Hey AJ
I am 19 weeks now and i STILL think something is wrong with one of the twins. I have been a long time lurker on this BB from around june 2005 but this is only one of my first posts, after my miscarriage i have had a great fear of jinxing this pregnancy, so didnt want to post. But i am very glad i did now. I have a few awesome 3d picks of the twins, the latest from yesturday is two bottom and leg shots hehe. They are so cute and so well defind, they look like full term babies just very skinny ( they would be a lot smaller as well but you cant see that in the photo).

Are you going to have a nucal fold UC?

How old is your DS and did you have him naturally or IVF? And did you find out his sex before he was born?

I also had a terrible cold in the first trimester, it was misery i hope you feel better soon,

I know you dont always get onto the boards so dont feel guilty if you dont answer this post for a while.

Hi Maci
Wow your just where all of us want to be nearly to D-day. I wanted to ask you how far ahead you messured? I am messuring 9 weeks ahead. Also too all the other twin mums can you tell me what you are messuring for your weeks? I want to know if i am messuring to far ahead:).

Even at 19weeks i am finding it hard to walk around, i am having terrible ligament pain, i never had it will my dd so i have been worried its shortening cervix or something but my scans show a long closed cervix.

I think i will start looking at stuff to buy in feb, just to make sure i can get stuff and if i cant have plenty of time to order in. Most important is a twin breast feeding pillow.

Are you girls planing to breastfeed? I breastfed my daughter until 2 years old and after the first week it was a breeze. I got terrible nibble sores from the baby attaching wrong in the first day or so but my hubby brought nibble sheilds and they saved my life. Make sure your hubby is on hand to help with breastfeeding sessions at first, he had to break the babies sucion with his finger while i screamed in pain. You wont belive how much it hurts but after you get over that first few days you can breastfeed vacuming if you want hehe.

ok thats a long post sorry just wanted to welcome everyone :)

Hi Ladies

I’m also pregnant with twins. I’m 13 weeks today, we were really lucky as this was our 1st IVF cycle. We don’t have any other kids. So feeling very scared. I’m loving each day of my pregnancy and look forward to each scan as I’m sure we all do.

My DH has been treating me like a queen, so I’m milking every moment of it till the twins are born. The only problems I have been having are a serious pelvic & hip ligament pain which I am due to go and see a physiotherapist about. My midwife has said I have Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD) which is when the two halves of your pelvis are connected at the front by a stiff joint called the symphysis pubis. This joint is strengthened by a dense network of ligaments which means that under normal conditions, very little movement occurs. In order to make your baby's passage through your pelvis as easy as possible, your body produces a hormone called relaxin, which softens the ligaments in your pelvis. As a result, these joints move more during and just after pregnancy.
We are not sure exactly what causes SPD but current thinking indicates that if one side of the pelvis moves more than the other when you walk or move your legs, this can lead to pain and inflammation at the symphysis pubis. X-rays and scans may not diagnose the problem as this rotation does not show up on most scans. Many women with SPD experience significant pain without any great separation of the joint — the amount of pain isn't related to the degree of separation.
A related condition is diastasis symphysis pubis (DSP) in which the pubic joint loosens and leaves an abnormally wide gap between the two pelvic bones. The average gap between the bones in a non-pregnant woman is 4-5mm and during pregnancy it's normal for this gap to widen by 2-3mm. If the gap is 10mm or more, DSP is diagnosed. This is a rare condition and can only be diagnosed by X-Ray.
Sorry about that… It’s just in case someone else might be having the same problems as me.. Count yourself lucky if you don’t as it’s very painful especially at night. But who am I to moan… WE ARE HAVING TWINS!!
Does anyone else suffer from a lot of head aces as that is my only other problems Does anyone else feel a feeling like bubble in their belly. When did you all start showing as I feel that at 13 weeks my belly looks a bit big, I started showing at around 7 weeks (might be a lot of fluid)… And I’m already holding my bump..I just can’t help myself, it’s just so natural.
Anyway just thought I would add my piece..
P.S Yes I will be finding out what sex they are as I just can’t wait to find out.
Anyway happy growing

Love Mitch xx

Hi

Mitch - sorry to hear you are suffering. I have read about the condition but I didnt realise that it could start so early.
Is that Grays in Essex that you are from?
I get headaches but not frequently anymore.
I was also showing quite early as I suffered with slight OHSS and blew up like a balloon!!

Maci - I cannot sleep through the night now as I too am at the mercy of my bladder, but I am only getting up once at the moment. Perhaps it is just a way to prepare us for when they arrive!

Jaymee - I am going to give breastfeeding a go, but am worried whether I will be able to feed both of them and give them enough.
DH and I have been married for 5 years. We have been ttc for most of that time. This was our first go at IVF and we do consider ourselves very lucky.

AJ - Hope you are getting over your cold. I have had one myself and each time I sneeze I think it is upsetting the little ones because it pulls on my stomach muscles!!

I have had my first appointment today with the consultant at the hospital.
I have been advised to take iron tablets daily. He did a very quick scan to check on the twins heartbeats. I think they were having a shoving match! They are fine and their heartbeats looked very strong.

Hope you are all ok

Best wishes
Ange

Welcome Mitch

Sorry to hear about your ligament pain. I have quite bad hip pain and really pain searing kind of pain across the bottom of my tummy, i also have sharp tugging pain deep in my groin, i read somewhere someone described it as being kicked there. I have had all these pains my entire pregnancy so far so i try not to worry about them as the scans have all gone well.

I was showing at 13 weeks so i think that sounds normal for twins.

Ange i think its strang they are putting you on iron tablets so early, my hospital checks for iron deficancy around 26 weeks and then puts you on iron tablets if theres a problem. Before then they say extra iron isnt needed.

ouch i just saw the time and have to run

Hey there -

I'm having twins myself. Early scan shows both boys. We'll be getting another scan next week, so maybe we'll get another peek!

I have that pulsing pain in the groin, too! It's brief, but not comfortable.

I'm over the morning sickness!!!!! That was just TERRIBLE from week 4 through week 13. Whew, I think we can make it through anything now.

I'm waiting to feel the first kicks!!!! :)

Hi, any more room for us 3??!

I was 12 weeks yesterday , pregnant with twins from our 1st IVF cycle.
Me and my dp have been together for nearly 5 1/2 years, and we have been trying to get pregnant for about 4years of that!

I don't know yet what we are having but we would like to find out - dp has 2 daughters from previous relationships. At first he didn't want to know, but as it's twins, he's coming around to the idea of finding out! I would like two boys or one of each, but I'll be happy with whatever we have been blessed with. :D

I have been showing from around 5 weeks, but I think that is mostly due to fluid... I feel like I am huge now and I have so far to go still, that I proaby won't be able to move in a few weeks time! hahaha!

One twin is slightly in front of the other at the moment, so we haven't been able to get a picture of them both together, but we have another scan on thursday, so hopefully they will be able to add some more piccies to the ever-expanding album!!!

Hope that you are all doing ok, chat soon.
