PAYING FOR ALL THIS - YET ANOTHER QUESTION!!!

Post by rachel r »

Hi everyone,

Was just wondering something and didn't know if any of you would know!

Basically, we're on the NHS list - we get 2 attempts, but these don't come round until next Spring/Summer time (138th on the list!).

We funded our first attempt (£3,000) ourselves, and we really want to strike while the iron is hot and have our second go asap (I was thinking july/august. Except obviously another £3,000 is a hell of a lot, (thank God the hospital takes credit cards!!!!) Anyway, I just wondered whether anyone had had any joy from their GP in funding drugs. I was thinking that I would go and see my doctor and ask if there was any way that he could fund the drugs side of it, because then it would only be about £1600.00 for us to pay. Does that seem v. cheeky, do you think?

LOL

Rachel
x

Hi Rachel

I am doing my first attempt at ICSI in Aug. My cons, at Kings suggested that I approach my GP about funding the drugs. I did, even though I was sure that the answer would be no, and guess what he said yes!
All we have to pay is the normal NHS prescription charge (approx £6) so if I were you I would GO FOR IT!!
You have nothing to lose, GOOD LUCK!!

LOL
Lorraine

Rachel,

I've asked this question before and there were plenty of GP's who have agreed to funding from the reply's of the other girls. Unfortunately the GP's in my area of Somerset have all got together and said no!!! But there are plenty that will - just depends on their budget.

Can't lose anything by asking.
Good Luck
Sharon

PAYING FOR ALL THIS - YET ANOTHER QUESTION!!!

Hi Rachel..

I have just had my first IVF treatment (failed) and we were lucky in that we didn't have to pay for our drugs. It appears it is not down to your individual GP (ours would have funded the whole shooting match if it was down to her) but is in fact down to the policy of your Local Health Authority. I contacted them direct and they confirmed that they would fund drugs for 3 attempts. We have to pay for everything else so each attempt costs us about £2300.00.

Check which LHA you come under (it is where your GP is not where you live) and they should be able to tell you their full policy.

Good luck
Helen

Hi Rachel,
Just wanted to agree with Helen: our local authority pays for drugs for two attempts. We had to take our private prescription to our GP then she converted it to an NHS presecription.
We get one fully funded IVF attempt on the NHS but the waiting list is 3 yrs so we're paying for ourselves for now. I think we may have to pay for the drugs on the NHS attempt if we've used up our two 'free' goes . . . but hopefully we won't need that go anyway!!!
Good luck - hope your GP says yes! Beck x

If you don't ask you don't find out, they can only say yes or no. I had my 1st attempt at ICSI and it worked for us, but unfortunately we had to fund it all ourselves. I did speak to my GP but he said no he wouldn't fund for the drugs so it was £3000 out of our pocket, we was very lucky though because we had our 1st attempt and it worked.
Wishing you lots of luck.
Love
Shell.
xx
