Acupuncture

Post by thegruffalo »

Can anyone here recommend acupuncture - we have read Zita West and she seems to think that it would greatly aid icsi/ivf. Has anyone here had any experiences of it?

Also, can anyone recommend an acupuncturist in the Brighton area?

I had acu for my last (3rd) cycle of ICSI. I went to a guy in Harley Street who works closely with the ARGC and has a great reputation (and success rate though sadly not with me). It's important to choose someone who specialises in IVF/fertility. I have a near-perfect cycle so no major problems for him to solve (our issue is male factor) but I have to say that something worked well this last cycle. Even though I didn't get the BFP, I went from my usual 12 eggs to a massive 26 eggs (and I am 40). Of those 26 eggs, 25 were viable and we had 16 fertilised. 9 made it to blastocyst stage and I have 7 frozen left over. I don't know what else to attribute this result to. Whilst 12 eggs isn't bad, we've never had any make it to frozen before so having so many good quality eggs really made a difference as it's great to have enough left over to do a FET.

I'm still doing the acu in preparation for my FET and I think it money well spent.

I highly recommend it too - I see a wonderful woman in south London who has a pretty high pregnancy/IVF success rate and really helped with OHS and general discomfort during the down-reg/stimulation process. Don't know what the outcome is yet, but I'm a firm believer ... I've had acupuncture with her for other health problems and she's sorted me right out!

I don't know of any practitioners in Brighton, but I'll certainly give her a call and see if she can recommend anyone ... I agree with Dancola, it's money well spent.

Happy to help Anna, I've sent you a private message with her details.

I used to be terrified of needles (although luckily I overcame it before I started this whole process or I'd never be where I am today!), but she's a really great Irish lady who puts you totally at your ease. If you do go to see her, tell her you're nervous and she'll take extra care!

She's a well-respected practitioner who's been practising for years and is writing a book at the moment so no worries about her background!

If you do get hold of her and she asks where you got the number, my real name's Gerry (Maud was a nickname from years ago!!)

It's really worth it - good luck!

Anna

If you have no joy with Maud's acupuncturist, I'm going to an acupuncturist in Claygate, he works there 1 day a week and he also works in Raynes Park if that is any good for you. I can give you his details if you live near enough.

1)When looking for a accupuntuist, what do u look for? How do u know they are registered, qualifed etc.....?

2)Do the needles hurt?

Hi Nicki,

Hope you had a great Christmas. Here is a website that will hopefully help you find an acupuncturist near you. www.acupuncture.org.uk

The acupuncturist should be registered with the British Acupuncture Council (the above website) and ideally have worked with IVF patients.

The needles don't hurt going in but can hurt when they are manoeuvered and then only for a split second. But hopefully it will all be worth it.

Hope this helps. Happy New Year.

Love Pauline x
