just had retrieval yesterday, needing a pep talk

Hi, well I don't usually post mainly just a lurker. I had my retrieval yesterday and they were able to retrieve 11 eggs. Of the 11 one was not any good and only 4 fertilized. I have to say I am disappointed. We started with 26 follies. The nurse that called today said four was a good number but from what I have read 4 is not as great as he said. Can any of you give me any insite into all of this? Please tell me your experiences with retrieval and transfer. Today I am feeling very bloated and uncomfortable. They said that by tomorrow we will know the transfer date. I would love some words of wisdom form those of you who are going through or have already been through this whole ordeal.

rach, best of luck to you, you might want to post on general forum.
I just wanted you to know that it only takes one, it's true.
but anyways, on my first cycle i too had 12 on first scanned, then the numbers slowly decrease and i only had 4 at time of retreival. 3 fertilized and two made it to day five. So you are in a good position then me since I only had three but they DID make it to day five. and i was able to have a transfer. I know youre probably worried but pray and leave it in the Hands of God. I will keep you in my prayers.

Hi Rach

I had 12 eggs collected (approx 15 follicles in total I think). We had half IVF and half ICSI. None of our IVF fertilised (Dont understand why, the sperm we used was frozen prior to my DH's chemo and was apparently v.good quality, no mention of anything wrong with my eggs). 4 of the ICSI fertilised, so we only had 4 embryos. I was really upset as I thought most of my chances had gone. Only 2 were suitable to transfer (although they would only transfer 2 anyway, but none to freeze). They were only 3 cell (2 day transfer) but as you can see, one made it!
In the end I saw it that as long as I got to ET that was the main thing, there was a chance.

Rach hi im caroline i had et on the 30th nov and have beta 16th dec
i got 10 eggs and we done 6 with icsi and they all fertilized and the other 4 was deone normal ivf and none fertilized so we ended up with 6 we transfered 2 and froze 4

the et i dident feel a thing so dont worry about that its nowt compared to ec the worst part of it is 2 week wait

4 is a good number ive talked to quite a lot of people on boards since i started and there has been people with less so we have done well

rach, i have 6 follicles, 5 eggs retreived and all 5 fertilised, ET was day 2 and i have 2 back in , the other 3 they told me were not good enought for freezing. I am 38 with no history of infertility and have heard the term "unexplained infertility" at the hospital being used. I too felt very down that i hadnt done well, but i was assured this was all v. normal. I have good faith in my hospital ( John Radcliffe in Oxford , UK) which has a great fertility/maternity unit. All we need is to be average with average amount of eggs, and ave amount of ET and THEN you aim to have ave positve result ( 1) ! hope this helps . when is your ET and test date do you know yet?

Hi Rachel,
I had my EC in October and have waited unitl today to get them put back in due to mild OHSS. They got 17 eggs and only 4 fertilised. My problem was because my eggs do not like my DH sperm so if for some chance we need to do it again they have suggested ICSI to make sure all the eggs fertilise.
I was so disappointed at that number only 4 but my DH made me thankful that I had 4 as some ladies don't even have any fertilised or any good eggs.
