My information evening for the start of my ivf treatment is tomorrow and i am really scared, anyone have any info in what i should expect or what is going to happen !!!!
Don't know exactly what information evening is.
Is it your first consultation on IVF?
Please don't be scared. Read up on IVF (try the list on the left side of this page) and write down any questions you may have - to ask tomorrow. It really helped me to get more information and feel calmer
the best thing i could tell you is to bring a tablet and right down info..
you wont remember what was all said once you get home..
also right down your questions that you have cause you can get caught up in what the doc is saying and forget all of your questions..
and remeber to take a couple of deep breaths
we werent blessed with our babies to raise here but we our blessed with our grandaughter
and all of our many adopted and foster children that touch our lives
and i am glad to add that our 6th grandchild will be born this spring!!!!
Good luck with your meeting.
It is scary at first but you will soon get to know what it's all about. Just take one step at a time.
Stay with us and ask any questions, these ladies are fab and very well informed!
Good luck with tmt
Anna x
PS You may like to try reading a book by Zita West on Fertility and Conception. A lot of ladies here have read and recommend it.
Our information evening (which we attended approx 3 mths prior to our treatment) consisted of sitting in a lecture theatre, along with a lot of other couples and shown some slides along with a talk from the consultant, an embryologist and an infertility nurse. I remember that there was an awful lot of information and although it helped us understand a bit more of what was going on, we left feeling a bit shellshocked by what we were getting into! We didnt take a notepad (or if we did we didnt write anything down!) but it probably is worth it in case you do want to take notes. I think we were given handouts.
We were given an opportunity to ask questions as well. Obviously, each area might be different as in how they conduct their information evenings.
Dont worry if you leave thinking 'What on earth are we getting into', because there is a lot of info and it can appear quite complicated. To me IVF was a learning experience at each stage. In fact, Ive learnt more and understand more since the treatment from this website!
Good luck!

are you at LWH? If so there are a few of us oabout on here, this is what LWH did when we went. Like Kim said it is basically you will be in a room with about 100 other couples. On the way in you give your name and they give you and dh a pack, dh contains his sample pot and some info about when his sample will be and his bloods. Yours will tell you what to do eg. ring on day 1-4 (i think) of your next period to get your fsh tested and they will do your bloods on that day. Then in the hall they go through the procedures and have a few different people speaking. I found it very good, very informative. I was just chuffed to feel i had moved on to the next stage.
Are you going private or NHS? We are NHS, went to the PIE evening this time last year and we didn't start till July, it will be quicker if going private.
Good look, wishing you all the best
Take care

Does it really take 3 months or more to get started even when going private?
I am hoping to get an appointment in February with a recommended doc but i kind of hoped the process would start pretty much within a couple of weeks...must have been dreaming..as with everything in life..its all a waiting game!!!

Feb 2007 ?
In answer to your question about appointments even when you go private. We were initially referred in October and got an appointment the following January, so 3 months sounds about right. Then before we could start any tmt we had to have blood tests on certain days, sperm samples 6 weeks apart and a HSG to see if my tubes etc where OK. In all we started medication for down regging in April....Sorry.... IVF is a very frustrating waiting game, from start to finish!
I seem to remember that you were waiting for results from a HSG a while back. You may be further along the path. All clinics are different in their procedures.
Yeah i had my HSG done in October through the NHS and got my results finally in December where i got pretty much told that looked like the next step for me and i was then to be referred to another hospital. My dad is the one who is helping me go private now so i am waiting on my first appointment for that, which im hoping we can make tommorow. I guess he will ask for the results of my HSG to be fowarded to him then??

We were NHS, so had a while to wait. The information evenings were held approx every 3 months, so decided we didnt want to wait until the last minute to go, we wanted to be prepared. As Anna says though, you still have certain tests to go through, but you shouldnt be waiting long if going private (and if you have already had some tests, then you are on your way). I made use of the time waiting by getting physically and mentally prepared for everything, which really helped. I felt that at least I had done everything I possibly could to improve my chances.
Good luck!

Mrs gill, dh and I are going private in Edinburgh and so far things have moved quite quickly. DH was diagnosed 31st October (azoospermic) by GP, repeat SA results 1 week later, bupa appointment 1 week after that for consultation and bloods for dh, blood tests results and ultrasound scan of ovaries for me 2 and a half weeks later, first IVF clinc appointment 2 days ago for more bloods and now we have a list of dates for next year. Feb 2006 for dh's sperm retreival (nhs so could have been done sooner if private - its the only part we're getting free ), April for nurse appointment about meds I think? and provisional first try ICSI (fingers crossed) July 2006. So that's still a 9 month wait from initial diagnosis to tmt. I know it seems long but to be honest, I think dh and I need this time to come to terms with things. Occasionally it has felt as if we haven't had time to come to terms with things, then we're getting more info to digest! I know its hard but hang on in there and try to be patient.
All the best of luck to you and dh xx
