I'm brand new to the message board, and I have a question?

Post by Sweetness »

Hi, I'm sweetness- I'm 37 years old and my husband is 38. (I'm sorry I do not know what all the abreviated symbols mean yet) Anyway, I was previously married and had a tubal-ligation after the birth of my two girls, in 1990. I was very young to have made such a stupid decsion, but I was in a very bad marriage and was afraid of becoming pregnant again. I divorced my x the following year, met the man of my dreams and remarried in the spring of 1992. He had one child, and I had two, his child was handicaped, and passed away just 2 months before our 2nd anniversarry. I loved her very much, she was an angel, I could not have loved her more, had I given birth to her myself. (the biological mom was not in the picture) I was her mother, and that was that. Anyway, I have always had the desire to give my husband a child, so in 1996 we attempted a tubal reversal. This did not work, I had develpoped endo with a condition called hydrosalpinix. (I think that is how you spell it) in one tube and the other tube was just shot. At that time we could not afford IVF, but my doctor then told me my uterus was beautiful and there would be no reason why I could not carry another pregnancy. Fast forward to 2005, we have been seeing an IVF doctor since March, we have gone through all the tests and will be attemtpting our 1st IVF cycle in Jan. I just had surgery to have a polyp removed from my uterus, so there will be nothing preventing implantation. Finnaly my question is....has anyone on this message board ever gotten pregnant with only 4 follicles? That is all I have, and my doctor tells me that it is possible with an agressive treatment of medication to make me produce as many eggs as possible. Because of the endo being so bad, my other follicles are stuck to adhessions and do not work. Thanks for taking the time to read my long introduction, I hope to find many friends here, who understand what I'm going through.

Thank you Souris, and Anna, I will take my question to the general forum, also thank you Souris for the abreveations info....I'm so brand new I do not know what most of them mean..Maybe someone there will know about not having many follicles, and still conceiving. I hope to make may friends here on this site, if it were not for my husband I would not even know this existed!

You can get preg with only 4 follicles, in iui u only need one, and people get preg from iui, so yes you can still get preg.

All the best dear xx

Thank you for the info Nicki, I'm sorry I'm just getting aroung to replying. I'm not on my computer much latley...I have not had time due to Christmas shopping!! My dh (that means dear husband I think) and I had our apt. on Friday the 16th for our IVF overview, and boy am I over whelmed! When my period starts I'm to notify my coordintor and the ball starts rolling...We were planning our first cycle in January, but we are going to have to put it off until Febuary. We do not have an apt. with the financial advisor until Jan 6th, and we need to know all the costs and so forth so that we are prepared....Have all our ducks in a row so to speak...So I'm bummed about having to wait a month, but I have waited a long time to give my dh a child so one more month will not hurt me. I'm just so ready to do this first cycle....I'm going to have to give myself shots in the tummy, and my dh will have to give me shots in my backside.. not looking forward to that but I'll do whatever it takes! Can anyone tell me if they have ever had any affects from these shots? My doctor tells us that the only complaints they here are bloating issues. The shots are follistim, and repronex, and once we get to this point I'm going to be very busy back and forth to see my doc.. I'm just curious to know what affects (if any) of you ladies may have had if you used these two meds... Thanks to all of you for being so kind to me, it will take a little while but I'll learn all the abrevations for this site!!!

Merry Christmas everyone,
Sweetness

Sweetness; I too am starting the process very soon--and have the exact same questions/concerns about side affects from the shots (Fostimon I think is what it's called) and the inhalant, Synarel, which is the pituitary/ovulation suppressant. My doctor said if anything the shots might make me more emotional, weepy, etc., but it is still scary thinking about all these synthetic hormones we are going to be putting in our bodies. Both my husband and I are 40, neither have ever had kids (2nd marriages for both of us). I check out perfectly; doctor said I have perfect uterus, and what appear to be healthy ovaries. Hubby just has too low of sperm count for things to occur naturally, so we are having ICSI performed, where they inject a single sperm in to the egg(s). Hopefully they'll get enough from me...we'll see. I start the injections around January 13th, so providing everything goes well they'll do the retrieval around the 23rd and put back in around the 29th. This is all so exciting, scary, nerve-wracking, etc., all at the same time! Best of luck to you -- DarcyH

Darcy..Thanks for the reply!

Hi Darcy!

I'm sorry it has taken me a couple of days to reply to you, I've been busy and some things have happened in the past three days that have been pretty overwhelming for me. (nothing to do with IVF) this is my 2nd marriage as well, and I have had children (2) with my 1st husband...long story and bad situation, we were only married 5 years, it was a very unhealthy relationship. But I had a tubal when I was married to him due to the fact that I was to afrais at that time of getting pregnant again, and I had all I could deal with trying to take care of to babies in a bad sitiation. Well, I found my dh in 1991, while I was going through my divorce, I married him in 1992. He is the love of my life, my soul mate and I want nothing more than to give him a baby. Anyway, enough of all that, you are taking a medicine that I'm not (the nasel one) is that one supposed to make you emotional? Because what I was told was that I would just feel bloated. I get bad pms so I'm afraid I'm going to be a mess. I do not get mean or anything I just get very weapy, and very sensitive. I'm so glad I recieved your reply, thank you and maybe we can become good email buddies....Best of luck to you and your dh, I hope everything works out for you both...!

Hi Sweetness. Your story sounds alot like mine. I was married , had children and divorced. Had a tubal for same reasons. How I wish I wouldve waited, as I was very fertile then. I am currently married to the love of my life. We are in the process of our first IVF in January. This will be his first baby. I am 38 and hope it works for us. Where in treatment are you now? I am finally stopping bcp's tomorrow. Then stimming on the 7th-yeah!!!!!
