The Six Month Freeze

Post by Savannah »

My DH and I have just started on the long journey of IVF and I needed some help? DH had his sperm frozen in May, but at our appointment last week we were told his sperm count was quite low? This wasn't the case last year when all investigations began. However, because we would like to start asap when the 6 months are up, we asked if he needed to have it done again and what they meant by 'this being the "backup sperm"' They told us that they use fresh sperm when actually fertilising the eggs? Does anyone else know about this and can anyone explain the logic in this? I need to know if my hubby needs to have more frozen, but the clinic aren't particularly bothered about time, we are!
Help???????
Savannah

hi savannah

i will be using donor sperm and i know they keep it frozen for six months before they use it. so i do not think how long it is frozen makes a difference. any egg or sperm that is frozen is not as good as fresh.

hope i have helped but you should speak to your clinic as they will answer all those questions. i'm always speaking to my clinic even when i'm not on tmt.

from july ann

HI there
My Dh has v low sperm - they froze some and it didnt defrost well. So maybe they mean he should do another batch incase it doesnt all defrost that well. Even if his count is low they should still be able to use ICSI -which has just as good success rates as striaght IVF. Maybe this is why they dont seem too bothered?
Hope it works out well for you I agree totally with July Ann - call the clinic if in doubt -its what they are there for!

July Ann - didnt realise you were using DI. We may be too - would love to chat to you about it? Have you decied to tell anyone about it? Including the child ?- as long term readers of this board may know its a REAL dilemna I have!!Hope you dont mind my asking?

Cxx
