IVF Cycle Description in Layman's Terms?

Post by Dawn Blake »

Hello!

I don't know if I am alone here, but as much as I love all my friends and family, some of them continue to ask about the treament, how I am doing, what stage I am at etc etc, but they don't actually understand the whole process, and I feel I am repeating myself time and time again, without getting the message across, and confusing them more!

I think, because we are so into it all (because we have to be), and know about all the drugs, various stages, that I for one take it for granted that others do too, and that is not the case!

Therefore has ANYONE got a one pager very very basic description of the whole process of IVF that I can send to them all, or konw where I can find one. All the books I've got on it are slightly too indepth, and with most of them trying to work as well as look after young families way to much information!

Any help GREATLY appreciated!

D x
Me 34, DH, 37. Married for 11 years, ttc for 6+, failed 4 x fresh IVF tmts. 5th attempt at Lister Hospital gave us Megan on 5 April 2004 with a very straightforward pregnancy and labour. Attempt number 6 to start hopefully September 2007!

IVF Cycle Description in Layman's Terms?

Hello Dawn
I have sent a "fact sheet" (to your home email address) that I wrote for my family - It's an explanation of the steps of the IVF cycle, a general overview and a diary schedule thingy I did so they could keep up with the programme - everyone wants a bit of interactive reality TV these days - and it doesn't come any more real or gritty than living through an IVF cycle heh???!!!!
It will need a bit of chopping and changing - I really recommend doing something similar for your family (mine REALLY appreciated it) as the benefits to YOU are fantastic - my family asked all the right questions at the right time - I felt sooooo supported. My brother was living in Spain at the time and couldn't phone a lot but said it really helped him to undertsand what was happening - and that he could time those precious calls for when they were really needed. AND! Because they have a better understanding of the whole process they think you are a hero for going through it - so are EXTRA nice and spoil you rotten!!!!! Everyones a winner!!
Anyway hope it is of some help.
Blessings to you and your family.
Love from
Lorraine xxxxx
Married to my darling husband for almost 8 years - ttc for same.
Me - severe PCOS & Hubby - low sperm/poor morphology/antibodies.
Usual investigations/drug Tx then 3 IVF cycles - all negative.
Have chosen not to have any further Tx.
