I am a Lister girl and have nothing but praise for the hospital. I had a failed attempt at St Barts and moved onto the Lister as I wasnt happy at Barts. The Lister is totally private, and you know that when you get the bills!!
My consultant is Marie Wren, she is very good and gets straight to the point which some people may find a bit to blunt for their liking, but I would rather they didnt pusy foot around! However I have seen all of them for various things and they are all great. Jaya is particually sensitive
having two children from IVF herself.
It is a busy clinic, but if you want your own consultant to do certain procedures, ie: ET or EC they will do the best they can to make it happen.
The Lister is very forward thinking and I had various tests for NK cells etc, they also offer PGS if you need it. They also have an excellent reputation for older ladies of which I am one!
You do need to visit the hospital for scans and bloods every other day in the second week of stims, I dont know if that would be a problem for you?
I am a sucess story, although it took me a few trys to get there, and my beautiful babies are sleeping peacefully at the mo!
Good luck with everything and if you go to the Lister I hope you follow in my footsteps!
Sue

Sue,
I am glad that you shared your experience with me. It is very reassuring. I am in 2 minds whether to try again at St Heliers and Bridge or try at Lister for my 2nd attempt.
As I am registered through the NHS at St Helier and am on the waiting list for 2007, I went private for the 1st attempt in July 05. I am going private for the 2nd attempt as well.
Do you think it advisable that I have one more try at St Heliers as they know my history and I am registered there through the NHS ?
I am concerned about the repercussions if I move to Lister now. Will appeciate your views.
Did you have any problems switching over to Lister from your original hospital?
Love,
Sita

I didnt have any problems switching hospitals, I just had to pay something like£35 for my notes to be sent over.
As for should you switch? Only you can decide, If you are happy with the hospital you are at then stick with it. The Lister do hold open evenings periodically and I went to one of them prior to commencing treatment, perhaps you could contact them to see if there is one coming up? I dont know whether it would affect your NHS attempt going elsewhere for private treatment, but I doubt it. I had NHS tmt at Barts, but wasnt eligable for further tmt afterwards.
Its hard when you get a negative and I always wanted a 'reason' why it hadnt worked.I ts easy at that point to want to change hospital etc to look for the answers. I have come to the conclusion now that there are no real answers and it may just be a matter of luck. My DH always said 'If you knock on the door enough times we will eventually get let in' and thankfully we did, although I truly thought we wouldnt.
Its a tough journey this IVF lark, and you have to be very brave and strong to do it.
I wish you lots of luck and babydust whatever you decide to do!

PS Hi Kat, I was really really sorry to read what happened to you, I was so thrilled when you got your positive. Its so bloody unfair. Im not sure what you have decided to do next but I really hope things work out for you. Big Hug xx

Thank you Sue. I was wondering whether you had your 3 attempts at IVF when you were at Barts and then moved to Lister ?
Yes, I noticed that they have an open evening. My DH and I are off to Australia for a holiday in 2 weeks. I will definetly try and visit them when we get back.
I am generally happy with St Heliers and Bridge but heard so many nice things about Lister and wanted to try it out. My DH thinks it best to try again at St Heliers. I guess I can decide this while I am on holiday.
The only thing that put me off St Helier, was when my consultant said "we can try a higher dosage NEXT TIME..." even before I had my egg collection. I was put off with this comment because I felt that my consultant was a bit negative even though I had 5 follicles at the time. Maybe I am being too sensitive.. I am not sure. I was not sure whether there was a profit motive behind the treatment cycles.
I know I must not give up... hopefully I will have better success next time.
Love,
Sita XXX

Hi,
I'm a Lister person. I'm 43, done only short cycles, got preg twice in 3 IVF's and one FET, but both died at around 12 weeks.
The Lister don't need your money, there's no profit motive there. The IVF nurses and the scanners are really lovely people, and some of the doctors are too. They will happily put you straight on a high dose - just tell them what you want and they'll do it. they put me on 450 gonal F even though most clinics say 375 is top whack. I was fine on it.
I tried another IVF last month, but I was really run down and I only got 2 or maybe 3 follicles of decent size, so Jaya said abandon the IVF, whack in an IUI and save my money for Feb/March 06, because she collected 12 eggs the time before that and is hoping that'll happen again.
I went to another clinic for a consultation, and they gave better individual care I think, but it wasn't as big and efficient and up-to-date as the Lister, who have good results and give honest opinions. They tell you the truth about your chances, but they'll always give you a go at anything if you want them to.
If I was you I'd check out the results of both clinics and compare them. The Bridge is a very good clinic and has good results for older women. Perhaps try them one more time and meanwhile book an appt with a consultant at the Lister so that that's in the diary.
It is reasuring that you are also happy about Lister. I am hoping to go for one of the open evenings and also get a feel for the place.
Because, St Helier know our history, my DH and I are hoping to give it one last try there. If we move, I am hoping it won't mean that we are struck off the NHS waiting list at St Helier. The nurse at my GP's office also recommend Lister.
I am hoping and praying that the next attempt will be successful..Wish you all the very best too.
Love,
Sita
