I was reading bout this competent cervix on babies love and lost and post some question but i dun think people really go there much. I didnt get any reply . Hope i'll get reply this time. How would you know if u have an incompetent cervix. Is there any sign or symptoms? Do u feel different from any pregnancy signs. I am 7 weeks pregnant and I just had my 1st scan last tuesday and I am having a twin. I feel heavy but i dun know if its normal. No pain or whatsoever just feeling heavy. Aside from eating a lot and also carrying 2 little ones but as I read ur post , it's making me worry now.I'm booked to see my doctor at the end of the month and definitely i'll bring this matter to him but firstly, just for assurance..is there any early signs or symptoms for this? Thanks in advance
I don't know much about this but I'm sorry you haven't got any replies. I suspect its something that a medical professional ought to answer. I don't think there are any specific symptoms (but my knowledge only comes from Sky TV programmes) and one of the recent programmes I've watched suggested that it's one of those things that they only know about when it happens and if it happens with 2 or 3 pregnancies then they consider putting a stitch in for later pregnancies. This might be wrong though. The other thing I've picked up is that its extremely rare and certainly nothing you should worry about - why not see your doctor just to put your mind at rest and try not to get too anxious.
Good luck with it all and congratulations on yuor preganancy,
Cherylxxx

come and join us on the first trimester thread on the pregnant after treatment board and worry about everything with us. I had a real dragging feeling from 6-8weeks which is perfectly normal as the womb starts to stretch, my doctor gave me 300mg magnesium which has eased it a lot.

First of all I want to congratulate you on your twin pregnancy, and I am glad you asked this Q ahead. When I was pregnant in 96, I lost a baby at about 15/16 weeks. That was my 1st pregnancy and doc said they couldn't figure it out it was incompetent cervix until it happens. I had a doc appointment just 1 week before this happened to me. If I had seen the doc 1 week before, I would have saved that baby! But after 1 year, I got pregnant and had a cerclage at 11 weeks and now I have a 7yr old girl. I had some symptoms but I couldn't figure it out. I had slight back pain before it happened. So, I want you to watch out for any kind of pain. You are carrying twins so you better have a check up early like 8/9 weeks and watch out for any signs of cervix opening(if you suspect). Those who have to go through the cerclage, they cannot carry twins and more. Good Luck!!!!!!!
Divina,
Reddy has said it all..You cant diagnose an incompetent cervix unless they do an internal exam on you and usually, docs dont start internal exams until week 16-20..
if you are worried, ask your doctor about your doubts..With twins, you'll anyway be given extra care and asked to take lots of rest..
At week 24 they though my cervix was opening up, but luckily it hasnt given way yet and now, I'm in the safe zone anyway..They advised me complete bed rest and asked me to come back every week for checks. After week 29, they said it didnt matter.. hope this helps..

I was diagnosed with incompetent cervix with my pregnancy in 2003. I was pregnant with twins and having what I thought were Braxton hicks contractions. I had and U/S and found my cervix had thinned out quite a bit and was in pre-term labor and taken to the hospital immediately. After 5 days I had a cerclage done and was put on bed rest. I unfortunately developed toxemia and delivered at 28 weeks. The cervix problem and the toxemia were unrelated. If I am successful this month with my tmt I will have a cerclage between 11-13 weeks to be on the safe side.
My advise to you is express your concerns to your dr. and don't ignore any aches or pains you may have. I am sure you will be fine.

Thank you for all the reply and support. I am just worrying to much.I was diagnosed last year of endometrial tuberculosis. The doc said if this wasnt found out early my reproductive organs will be un-useful for good. I didnt know I had TB until my 3rd IVF and doc decided to give me a salpingectomy since both fallopian tubes are damaged. Because of TB, there's always possibilities cervix, lining or uterus are affected such as thinning or premture rupture which will not be noted until sumthing happened. I just hope everythings gona be fine. 24th is my next scan and I hope i'm not too late for that. Thanx again!
