What day should FSH be checked?

Hi We have just had our second failed cycle.....just cant understand what the hell is going on anymore. First time they collected 10 eggs, 8 injected, 5 fertilised. Transfered 2 x good eggs that had fragmentation on day 2 both were 4 cells. None good enough to freeze.......negative Second time they collected 12 eggs, 8 injected, 5 fertilised. Transfered 3 x good eggs (1 only reached 4 cells and didnt divide anymore and the other 2 were 8 cells) transfered on day 3. None good enough to freeze.........negative!!. My main concern is the fact that I am only 28 and cant seem to produce any good eggs at all!!. We are having ICSI and dh had sperm antibodies and although I have a thyroid problem it is under control. I know the thyroid does control all your hormones.......is it possible this could be why we are not producing top grade eggs???. I have NEVER had my FSH level tested.......they have never once said I should have it done, do you thinkt hat I should have it checked???, if so what day do I need to have it checked on to get a true picture?? I havent had AF yet since failed cycle, should arrive anyday, would it be ok to have it checked on the cycle following a failed cycle or should I leave it a month or so?.............sorry to go on and on but im at a loss at to why they little guys dont want to stick around! natalie im so sorry for what your having to go through,, i thought a fsh test was one of thr first things that they done i had mine taken on the 3rd day of my period its seems like a long time ago.. it had to be 8 or below i got 8 phew.. i would ring the hospital and find out why they never took this test. what hospital are you at? write yourself a list of all the questions you want to ask if you cant wait untill they give you an appointment ring them and dont get off the phone untill they have answered all your questions you have a right to have them answered and its good to get it all straight in your head.. let me know how you get on.. take care natalie x

I would wait 2 cycles before having your FSH tested because the hormone injections that you have been on will give a false reading , also they will flucyuate up and down so it is good to have a few readings done , I went to the gp and asked for them to be checked or you can have them done at the clinic , you should have been tested at the very beginning of your refferal at the clinic .it is done on day 1-5 of your cycle . being as you have responded well to the drugs dosent seem to me that your eggs arnt good , if you were only getting 3-4 eggs then I would worry , I have an FSH as high as 16 which was my last count and before that was 12 and 10 and last year 6 so you see it can go up and down , I only got 5 eggs first go and 4 the second go and now I am having donor eggs from my second cousin as mine will probably be no good at 16. Could someone tell me what FSH is. I am new to the site and am gradually picking up on all the abreviations, but am at a loss on this one. Im not sure if I have been tested, certainly dont remember being tested for anything on either of my cycles... only ever have the scans! Thanks TJ x

FSH Is your Follicle stimulating hormone and is tested on days 1-5 of your cycle. if you go back a few weeks there was a write up about it explaining everything if you cant find it let me know. Trace x

Hi Traci, Ive just found it, excellent read, thanks for that, I think I will speak to my consultant next time and ask why I dont get tested.. I checked my records and I was tested initally before starting IVF, havent a clue what the result says, but didnt get tested on my second attempt... Thanks again from another Trace x

Trace Thanks for the info. I guess i will wait a couple of months before having this tested. I know I am responding to the drugs but the quality isnt all that great.......I thought that FSH was related to the quality aswell?. I go back for the follow up appointment on 14th July so I will ask if they thinks its worth while being done. My own GP will be only to happy to do this for me. I have read some of your posts over the past few months and have seen that you had an awful lot of ups and downs. I think its great your cousin is donating her eggs, such a truly amazing person to do this. I wish you loads of luck. Natx

Thanks Nat, Yes she is amazing to do this for me and also she will be moving to australia in Feb anyway so that is good too. This is how we are related: Great Grandmother Had Her Nan and My Nan They Had one girl each Her mum and My Mum then they had Her and her sister and Me and My sister. so you see we are in the same line . She live in Poole in Dorset so the Nuffield in Bornmouth will look after her during all scans right up till her eggs are due to be collected .Then she will be wipped up to Northampton for EC. We hope that this will all take place in October / November 03 Trace x
