Sick notes from GPs - Hello to Traci

Post by Lorraine »

Hi Nicky
I am on my 3rd and last IVF cycle - I went to see my GP a couple of months before my cycle started and we planned how I would approach the cycle - I instigated the consult not them - and I said I felt strongly that I didn't want to work throughout the cycle this time. Like most of us I have a very stressful, responsible job, I work 12 hour shifts + have lots of work I bring home - like EVERYBODY I found the juggle of work and the IVF cycle very difficult in the past. (Luckily I have a good boss - and rather than cover my erratic absences it was actually easier to organise cover for a couple months.)
Anyway my GP has been very supportive - and it has been of great help to have some time off (although I still do the "home work" and am currently doing a degree course at college) it has helped address the balance.
However I can not under estimate the downside of having so much time on your hands - or being on your own - it leaves a lot of time to think - definetly not always not a good thing!!!
But the bottom line is some GP's are very supportive and will give you a sick note - mine even asks what I want put on it!!!
I am sure if you need time off during the cycle - no GP would really refuse - even on the grounds of the stress alone.
Best wishes to you.
Lorraine
xxxxx
