Can I ask everyone if they have early scans done internally or externally?

Holly it is usually internal because they can't see much from an external.

All my scans up until my Nuchal Scan at 12 weeks were all internal.

Hi guys,

I've posted on my fave aussie / kiwi thread as well, not sure if you've already read over there?

Scan was OK, then maybe not OK, I am in limbo to be honest. The guy that did the scan at the local radiography place was quite inept I thought, he was a very poor communicator as well, so not a great experience.

I had the referral for a six week scan basically to rule out an ectopic given my increased risk associated with endo. So there's no ectopic which is good, and the embie was good and in keeping with a five week six day embryo (I thought I was six weeks give or take a day or two..so that side of things is fine). So then he says "ahhh..you can see the heartbeat, it's tiny and very new, but there it is". I ask how many BPM it is, well then it took him ages to get the right position, then he says 90. I said "that's a bit slow isn't it?" and he says "well yes it is slow, but then it's only been beating for a day or two at the most so it's normal for it to be slow"..Dufus me then doesn't say..but is that NORMAL..no, I just burst into tears the moment he left the room. He will forward the results to my doctor tomorrow and maybe I'll go for another scan in a week or so???..I'll ring the doctor tomorrow and see if I can chat to him for further insight. I have consulted Dr Google, and read that 90-110 bpm is considered normal at 6 weeks, so maybe I'm OK.. but then maybe not as well...

Holly - I had an internal scan at 6.5 wks and it all showed up clearly - so you never know .......good luck! It is such an exciting day - I was very nervous too.

Bel, its awesome news that he could see it at all! The HB start off slow then speed right up until they relax into a more normal rythym. So go back for another scan and I'm sure that all will be well.

Well just come back from GP another scan (external) did not see anything
so I am going to the hospital Monday morning! Over here they do nothing till you are 12 weeks not even your bloods,but because of my history they will let the hospital look after me.I asked for my blood pressure to be done and it was fine.So now I wait till monday.
But no bad news

Hi Holly, will be thinking of you waiting for your scan on Monday, you poor thing....don't worry it will all be fine.

belB - try and relax, I know ti's hard, but the good nes is you have a heart beat and that at less than 6 weeks which can only be a good sign. as denise says this then speeds up and stabilises. I asked my gynae to measure the heartbeat at last scan (9 weeks) and she said there is no point it looks fast enough they'l do it later when they do the "big ultrasound" (what the Germnas call the first major check at 12 weeks)..so you see, I don't even know what my sweetie's heartbeat is

just have faith
