Hi guys,

Jo, you're right, fatigue and sickness at any other time would be a real worry, and whilst they're certainly not comfortable signs, they are somewhat reassuring as well. I am seven weeks and two days today, but not getting too far ahead of myself, I want to wait until the scan on Wednesday, if that all goes OK then I might relax a bit (maybe?). I am down to one breastfeed a night with Annie now, and to be honest she seems to be self weaning which is wonderful. She drinks 500ml of cows milk per day and last night spent about 30seconds on one breast and about a minute on the other before pulling off and pointing to her bed. I have read somewhere that most bubs naturally wean by the time you get to 16 weeks pregnant, I think your milk supply must really diminish at this point and probably tastes different as well. I would love the weaning to be as natural and unforced as possible, we have had such a lovely breastfeeding relationship I would love it to end on a positive note. Wow, weekly appointments does sound like things are getting terribly close. I had the monitoring thingy as well at one point, is very reassuring and quite lovely to hear all that in-utero activity, hope you enjoy it!!

Tiger, thanks for your positive support, I really appreciate it. I'll post as soon as I get a chance on Wednesday and let people know how we got on..

Take care all
Belinda

Hi everyone from Oz and NZ!!

I am from Gosford, NSW, and was very pleased to see that there are other aussies and kiwis who are going through the same tough time that my husband and I are going through!

We are starting our first cycle of IVF with ICSI this month. I have been diagnosed wtih endometriosis and my husband has low sperm count with low motility and some abnormal sperm.

I am quite nervous as i have no idea how my body will react to the injections (i wont' start that until later this month).

Anyway, I'm just glad that we are on our way to (hopefully!) starting our much wanted family!

Good luck to everyone. :D

Hey Fiona,

I'm originally from the good old Central Coast as well, from Woy Woy actually. I now live in Qld but get back to visit a couple of times a year. I have endo too and have a little girl Annie who is the result of a FET (frozen embryo transfer) cycle in 2004. Congrats on starting your journey to parenthood, I look forward to hearing how it all goes. And the injections are fine, don't stress!!!..I used to get mine out of the fridge and let the drug warm a little (not too much), it hurt lots more when it was freezing straight from the fridge!!

Tiger, you must get sick of plane flights!!!

Take care all

Hi B!

Thank you so much for the advice. I will definitely keep that in mind when the time comes for my injections!

My parents live at Daleys Point and I actually live at Terrigal (I just thought people on this site would know Gosford better!).

I will let you know how it all goes!

Fiona :)

Hi B,

I LOVE living in Terrigal, i'm going to try to get to the beach this afternoon, if i can drag my husband there!

Yes, there is an IVF clinic in Gosford. They are excellent - no waiting lists! We got to start treatment straight away. My doctor (Tucker) has a very good reputation here on the Coast, so its very encouraging for us that we are in good hands!!

Take care,

Fiona :)

Ahhh, I didn't realise there was a clinic on the coast. That's excellent though, and great that they have a good reputation as well. For when you get pregnant, my sister just went through Dr Nelms (not sure of spelling sorry), he was her obstetrician based at Gosford I think?..she said he was EXCELLENT.
Enjoy the beach!

Hi B,

Had a great time at the beach, went for a quick swim which was very refreshing.

I have heard of Dr Nelmes... one of my friends had a baby a couple of weeks ago and Dr Nelmes was her obstetrician too, she also said he was excellent!

I hope when the time comes (with a bit of luck it will be soon!), I too will be referred to him. I don't know whether or not i will be able to choose which obstetrician i see? Did you get to choose which Dr. you saw when you were pregnant with Annie?

Take care,

Fiona :D

Hey Fiona,

You do need to think ahead when you're on IVF. I got to choose my obstetrician, it depends on whether you go privately or publicly (sp?). My sis went privately and had bub through North Gosford Private Hospital with Dr Nelmes. She was also admitted to Gosford Hospital a few times during her pregnancy, she had hyperemesis, basically really terribly pregnancy related sickness that means you need to go on a drip. She said they were generally excellent up there as well. She felt they were quite midwife driven, so less "intervention" lead births I guess (water birthing etc). Ultimately though she was happy with her choice, she got the doctor she wanted and her own room in hospital (which is sooooo what you want when you're completely shell shocked after having your bub)!!

Do you work on the coast or do you have to travel to Sydney?. A lot of my friends who still live down there commute to Sydney every day which must be quite wearing. I work at my local hospital which is about 3 minutes down the road..wonderful!!

Hi B,

Thanks for all your info. I will be going privately, so it will also be North Gosford Private! My friend who just had her baby was there too and she said they were very good.

I work locally in Gosford, as a legal secretary, which is great. I know what you mean about the travelling to Sydney, I travelled down there by train for 8 years! I will NEVER do that again. It was very tiring and I had no energy left for the weekends!

You are very lucky that you are only 3 minutes to work!! That would be wonderful! What job do you have at the hospital?

Welcome Fiona, and lots of good luck to you. My DH and I are starting tmt for our first time this year too, but have had to wait for 4 months just to get an appointment with the specialist. Perhaps we should more down your way!!

BelB - The Birth Centre is EXTREMELY difficult to get into. Both of my best friends are pregnant at the moment (and I'm trying to take that as a good sign!), and both applied there, and neither got in. They take everyone's names, then draw a lottery at the 3 month mark. It's worth a try though I think, I just love the idea of bub having that 'gentle' natural environment for his/her entry into the world, especially after such a clinical creation.

Have a magical day today everyone. Lots of baby dust to us all.

Hey guys,

Fiona, I'm an Occupational Therapist, I work with people with hand injuries and kids with toiletting difficulties, quite an odd combination I guess, but it works for me!. Glad that you don't have to do the commuting thing, I did it for four years down to Sydney Uni and back, was quite torturous, the days are sooo long and the trains can be a tad unpredictable. Where are things up to with your cycle??, are you sniffing??

Suzanne, I thought the birth centre was in demand, didn;t realise it was quite that popular though..ahh well, you've got to be in it to win it I reckon. I have friends who have had bubs both through Ipswich General and St Andrews, the Ippy Hospital gals report that their birthing experiences have been largely midwife driven and intervention free, so maybe worth checking out if that's your thing...Gotta plan ahead!!

Take care all, scan for me tomorrow, keep everything crossed won't you??

Hi B,

Your job sounds very interesting!

I'm still sniffing at the moment. I start the injections on Monday 30/1. my husband will the one who gets the fun job of doing the injecting, which i'm not looking forward to!

Wishing you loads of luck with your scan tomorrow. I'm sorry I didn't ask before - where abouts are you up to with your cycle? I apologise again, this is all new to me! :)

Hi Suzanne,

Thank you for the welcome. It sounds like we were very lucky to get moving so quickly! Good luck with everything.
