EXCESS AMNIOTIC FLUID

Hie All

I went for my 34wk scan on tuesday and I was told that my liquor levels are above average a conditon known as POLYHYDRAMNIOS. I went on to see the Doctor as the sonographer didnt say much. But the doctor just said that because my baby is a large baby thats why there is extra fluid. She didnt ask me to have extra tests or come back for monitoring. I asked her and she just said not to worry about it. SHOULD I BE WORRIED AT ALL - PLIZ HELP.

I'm so happy to hear from you, since I have been wondering how you are as you are at almost the same time..
Abt excess amnio fluid, depends on what yoru levels are..
I was told by my doc that they prefer the levels to be high than low..
One of my friends' levels was 20cm-22cm and she has delivered a healthy girl..Her daughter was 10 pounds at birth..(a large baby)I'll try and check with her if she was told to worry- as far as I know she said the docs were always happy
I have fluctuated between 9 and 13cm so far.
I can only say that as we are at the last leg, the babies will be fine no matter what so keep the faith and keep us posted.

Thanks for your soothing words Iam so happy to know that your levels have improved. Thanks for replying I had been beside myself with worry. I will check my levels and keep you posted. I cant write much as my back has already given in. I have swollen feet and my joins are so painful. Im on strict bedrest. Look after yourself and baby I cant do much because of my back. Keep praying.

You seem to be having a tough time of it.. Hang in there.
I hope you do ok- and hey reduce the protien in your diet- I believe that increases the water retention..

Hi Esther - I'm so pleased to hear news from you - I've been really worried about you. I'm sorry you're having some troubles and I don't know anything about the condition you speak of but Smita's words are helpful and I'm sure you're doctors are doiing the best for you and little one. It's annoying when they (doctors) don't tell you much but that is probably a good sign - if there was anything major to worry about I'm sure they would have spelt it out very carefully to you. Good luck with everything, keep us posted,

hi esther, hope you're doing ok. just wanted to share that on scans at 36 and 38 weeks i was found to have polyhydramnios, although it was only borderline. they werent overly concerned about it and just did a brief blood test to check for diabetes which was fine. my baby was not particularly large (7lb 3oz at birth) but the concerns for the doctors were more around other things which were non standard. i think if you haventy any other signs of problems, then you wont have any reason for concern. hope you can stop worrying and enjoy these last few weeks.

Thanks ladies for sharing your stories with me. That has helped me tremondously. I wish I can write much but because of my bad back I cant type for more than two mins. However I havent got any other problems thats why my doctor is not concerned. Thank you once again I WILL TRY TO ENJOY THESE REMAINING FEW WEEKS.
