Hi Fiona - Welcome! I'm glad you found this site - I think you'll find it really comforting when you start your cycle.
Bel - I know you have your scan today. I have everything crossed for you. Let us know when you can.
I was meant to start on Provera on Monday, but the blood test says I was about to ovulate (ha! now it shows up...), so couldn't start it. Having another blood test on Friday. I am so over waiting.....
I went to a BBQ on Saturday, and every one of my friends with kids was there with their kids. I love them all, but it was the hardest I have had since starting IVF.
anyway, so I'm going to ask you all for a special request....I would really love all your prayers (if you are religous), wishes, pma, and anything else you can think of for the next month or so, until my test date. It hasn't worked with just getting my family & friend's support, so I've decided to outsource it this cycle (you can tell I work in HR). If dates go to plan (which they haven't already), I'll be testing aroung 13th March.

MY SCAN WAS ON TUESDAY WE ARE HAVING ONE LITTLE BUB DOC SAYS WE WERE HAVING TWINS BUT ONE HAS NOT CONTINUED I'M NOT SURE HOW FAR IT GOT BUT I GUESS IT'S THE WAY IT GOES AND WE A STILL VERY THANKFUL WE HAVE LIKE YOU A GOOD SIZED BABY WITH A GOOD HEART BEAT. HE SAYS I MAY HAVE A BIT OF CRAMPING AND BROWN DISCHARGE WHICH I'M NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO HE ALSO SAID IT MAY JUST BE REABSORBED IT MAKES YOU WONDER IF IT WILL AFFECT THE OTHER BUB OR NOT ANYWAY ENOUGH ABOUT ME
GREAT TO HEAR YOUR SCAN HAS GONE WELL.
QUICK QUESTION WHAT IS THE NUCHAL FOLD TRANSLUSCENCY SCAN YOU MENTIONED ABOUT??? ARE YOU GOING TO JOIN FIRST TRIMESTER BUDDIES ALSO I'VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT IT BUT DIDN'T WANT TO JINX ANYTHING MAYBE YOU ANGEL AND I CAN GO OVER THE SAME TIME (WHATS YOUR THOUGHTS )
That's great news!!..Congratulations. I've heard of the "dissapearing twin" thing happening a couple of times on this web site, the girls have reported that the other bub has been fine and not in any way compromised, so keep good thoughts.
The Nuchal fold translucency is one of those "by choice" scans. It's generally done at about 12 and a half weeks and measures the thickness of a fold of skin at the babies neck (the nuchal fold). They also do a blood test two days before and the results of the two tests (fold thickness and bloods) give you an indication of whether you are at high risk of having a bub with downs syndrome. I think anything less than 1:300 they recommend that you go on to have further invasive testing such as amniocentesis, but then there is a risk of miscarriage associated with that test, so scarey stuff.
Most private obstetricians leave it up to you from what I can gather, as to whether you have it done. My obstetricians perspective was that any woman 30 or over should have it done. Frank Carmody who is the guru of scanning in Brisbane (foetal medicine unit at the Wesley) talked to us about this test on Wednesday when we were down there for our scan. He was saying that a lot more bubs with downs are born to mums under 35 than over 35 (35 is another recommended age cut off for nuchal fold testing), but then he also said that a lot more bubs are born to women under 35, so kind of a relative arguement I guess.
Sorry if I'm blabbing, nuchal fold testing is a personal decision, we got it done with Annie and we will get it done again for this pregnancy actually we are booked for it already). We just want all the information we can.
Hey Jo, just got this from the net: The OSCAR test refers to the combined nuchal fold and blood test:
The OSCAR
Another test now available for Down's syndrome is the OSCAR (One Stop Clinic for the Assessment of Risk). This test involves a nuchal translucency scan and a blood test taken at the same time. It measures levels of the pregnancy hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadatrophin) and the protein PAPP-A (Pregnancy Associated Plasma Protein) in your blood. Pregnancies affected by Down's syndrome tend to have higher hormones and lower proteins than normal. The nuchal scan alone can pick up 75 per cent of Down's babies but by combining it with the blood test, the detection rate is 90 per cent. The result may be given at the same time as the test
Didn't say on my previous post, I have been too scared to post on the other side, and I really like posting here so I can catch up with all the aussie chicks, so maybe I'll just stay here so long as no-one minds..

Congratulations to everyone with their wonderful news this week - Bel on your scan, Angeleyes on your BFP and Jo on the good news about your little one - I am sorry that the news with the second embie was not as you had hoped, although it sounds as though things are going really well with the one you have seen on the scan.
Looks like the Aussies are having a good week for Australia Day!
Still trying to keep cool in Melb - it is really humid at the moment, lots of storm activity, which has really helped with the fires, so that is good news.
