ARGC

Post by LittleP »

Hi all - sorry to keep asking so many questions, but does anyone have any knowledge of the ARGC. We've been recommended to them by our previous hospital but unfortunately their website is "under construction" so we can't find very much info out about them. We have our consultation on 24 March and I just wanted to know if any you have been there or know anyone who has? :? :?

Thanks

Hi Little P
We use ARGC and have always got on well with them. Their website has been under construction for 5 years!!!
I have had 5 treatments with them one of which was sucessful.
In my experience they are very honest with you and I have left in tears many times all needlessly I might add. They are do use a lot of new treatments that are not offered in some other clinics and they have always changed my treatments after a failure. Mr Taranisi the consultant is very controlling with the treatment and I had daily blood tests during the stimming phase with a phone call in the evening to tell me how much to inject that night . Towards egg colletion it was 2 bloods a day!!!
Also I find if you dont ask you dont get any information so do remember to ask as many questions as you want. They are also very busy and can at times seem unfriendly but they are really very nice.
Some people like the clinic others dont, it is up to you to make your mind up when you go.
Hope this helps
let me know if you have any further questions.

Thanks Ellie. It is really helpful when somebody can give you some help with this. Had you been to another hospital or was ARGC your first choice.

We used somewhere else first and they kept saying to us we can't find a problem, you are baffling us because there is nothing obvious - apparently we have excellent embryos so I guess it must be me :!:

My last treatment was successful but unfortunately I had a m/c, but it has given me hope that it can work :!:  :?

I am so pleased that you have had success with ARGC, they do seem to have a very high success rate which is why we have decided to go there.

Hi

We were just lucky as my gynae consultants is friends with Mr T and we were juist refered there and did no research at all. I think I was still in shock to find I needed assisted conception at the time.

One other thing I didn't mention is that they do have a high sucess rate and are very aware of this . This sometimes means that they will not go ahead with treatments when they dont think the outcome will be favourable. For example I have to go for bloods on day 2 and if my levels are not perfect we can't start that month. This is frustrating but they want to keep their results high and you dont want a negative.

How early was you m/c?if you dont mind me asking. Mr T is doing a lot of work on killer cells which destroy the embryo once it implants. I had 4 very early m/c's although I knew each time a viable pregnancy wasn't likely. I had some tmt to reduce this effect and next time it worked.

Good luck for your appointment.

Ellie - my m/c was in week 4 and my consultant then decided that I should try ARGC because of the Killer Cell issue. He said that Mr T carries out a test to determine whether or not you have this and that it is extremely costly because the blood test is done in America.

I got really down at the time  because all I could think was one minute I was pregnant and then the next it was gone and then now there was this other problem looming. What I don't understand is if you have a Killer Cell does that mean you can never be pregnant for the full term? :?

Thanks for all your help with this you have given us both some invaluable information for which we are really grateful. As the date gets closer and closer we are both getting more and more anxious about it.

Taranisi

Post by desiree »

Hello to you ladies talking about Dr. Taranisi,
I´m glad I can contribute to your chat , my experience and maybe follow your story. I have not been so lucky to be able to have treatment with Taranisi. I feel cheated and that maybe I would have been lucky with him. I did have treatments done through the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and in total it was a story that lasted 12 years. Am now 43 and have finally given up. I am living in South Amercia now and although I left London in 2000, I returned for 6 months in 2002 for my last chances at treatments and with the exact money to spend at the Taranisis clinic. I did not know though that there was a 6 month waiting list to see him and my time in London was wasted waiting for the 15 minute appointment I had with him. Although I had handed in my whole history ( unexplained infertility) of all the treatments and procedures done, I was not told -during the 6 months wait - that I needed a hysteroscopy ( I had only had a laporospopy done). By then, the flat I had been lent in London was no longer available, my husband was due back in SA and my $$$$ had run out! So the procedure had to be done through NHS which put me in a waiting list for 3 months( which could have been done during the 6 months I had been waiting for the 15 minute appointment!). I tried, I really did! But the current was against me then and I had to return against my will. I found Dr. Taranissi to be a very pleasant Dr ( as I have stories to tell from previous experiences, believe me...) - I had all my hopes pinned on him and cried an the plane all the way back to SA in frustration.
I did try treatment here 3 last times and sent faxes to Taranissis clinic hoping he could comment on the procedures to see if he would follow my story at least; to no avail. I never even received receipt for my contacts.
The procedures were unsuccesful and as Taranissi out it to me: "why?" is this not happening? I will never know..... :(
I relish on the fact that so many people have been successful through his clinic, wish you all the best of luck ( recommend acupuncture if you can afford it, made the world of a difference when I could!) and keep the story going as I feel happy with other people´s success!
and say hello to taranisi for me - he will be in my thoughts forever.

take care
