Hi, this site is new to me, but glad i found it. just started my treatment this month. I am going for ICSI. Started my first injections about two weeks ago, and ready to start the next set any time now. We are having our treatment at st marys manchester. Took to the injections quite well, just starting to get use to injecting myself now. It's not really that bad is it? APART FROM THE MOOD SWINGS. Now the weeks are coming closer to egg collection, just wondered if anyone could tell me does it hurt. Im dreading it I managed to blank it out my mind but it's coming closer. I now im such a baby.
Hi there Langton,
I have had one failed IVF, the egg collection was fine they knock you out really for it, so I didn't feel a thing was quite sick when I came round but don't really remember much else about it.
I had my egg collection at the begining of January, all along I had opted for a local anasthetic. When I went for my baseline appointment they found that my right ovary was hidden and said that I might need a General, but not to make a decision until nearer the collection.
On the day of the collection I signed all the paperwork for a general just in case the doctor couldn't get to the right side easily - she said she'd have no problems so I carried on with a local. The left side was easy as quick as the pain came it went - no problem.
The right side was a different matter, I had gas & air and nearly passed out because I was breathing so much in!
I would definately have a General if I needed to go through egg collection again.
Good luck with everything

I've had two attempts at ICSI and both times had a General A for the collections. My Clinic only does General A, I didn't feel anything at all except a little bit of period cramp when I woke up but a hot water bottle sorted that out.
If you are having a Local A, then maybe ask for a sedative which will help you relax. It's not a long procedure, only about 20 mins I think.
Good luck with it, it will all work out for you....baby dust on it's way to you.
