btwn ec & et, stressed already

Post by jaykay »

Hi Everyone,

I was in for my egg collection yesterday, they got 11 eggs but I have just found out only 5 have fertilized. I can't help feeling a bit disappointed, is this a normal amount? Now I'm worrying that they won't make it til Friday for ET.

It hadn't even occured to me that these were going to be things to worry about. I feel a bit helpless, I don't know what I'll be like with 2ww. I'm going back to work a few days after ET hoping it will keep me busy and stop me worrying. What do you guys do to stay calmish or take your mind off things? or is that impossible?

Really glad I've found this forum, thanks for your support.

Hi Jane

5 eggs sounds fine to me - my last (successful) attempt - I had 15 eggs collected and 7 fertilised - but you have to remember that some are not the right size for fertiliastion - my hospital were really emphatic about that as I was SO pleased to getting 15 - they just didn't want me to be disappointed when they didn't all fertilise.

I do yoga - or did- been a bit lazy of late. Relaxation techniques are good - lying on your back, listening to soothing music and relaxing ALL your muscles. Also breathing exercises are excellent. I am not in the least bit a yoga - y sort of person but I am an absolute convert - I never even knew how stressed I was before I did yoga.

I completely agree about not realising the things you were going to have to worry about - I have had 5 proceedures now and each time there different things to get stressed about. I guess that's just IVF for you!

In two week wait I just assumed I was pregnant and rested a lot. Obviously I had moments of doubt but I think it's best just not to think about it at all if possible. In the end I was pregnant - so that was exceedingly lucky as I wouldn't be so full of advice now if I hadn't been!

Anyway Good Luck. Love Vicky

Jane - I had my EC yesterday to, and had 11 eggs. I was SO nervous when we phoned this afternoon. They told me on average 70% fertalise - which makes 7 or 8 - so you are not so far off from that really.

My ET is tomorrow and now I'm starting to worry about that!

Good luck with your ET.

Hi Jane,
I'm in the same spot as you. EC yesturday got 11 eggs and only 5 fertilized. I have really mixed emotions. I'm happy this was better than last cycle (6 eggs, 1 embryo), but I was really hoping for more. Ugh. This whole thing is very stressful! I'm trying to think positively and visualize those five growing, growing, growing. I know it's hard to do, but keeping a PMA can only help. Hang in there. You're not alone!

Hi Jane

It seems like 11 is doing the rounds this week ..! I had EC on Mon and had 11 eggs too. 7 fertilised. As Angela has said, average fertilisation is around 60-70%, so you're not far off the mark. As everyone keeps telling me, it's quality not quantity ...

Good luck for Friday and beyond .. !

They retrieved 11 from me as well :)

8 fertilized initially, but by day 3, I had 6 left.

We transferred 3 and they all stuck initially!!! Now, I am pregnant with twins. It really does just take 1 good embyro to stick.

You'll be fine :)

Hi Jane

Just to reassure you that it only takes one! I had 12 eggs, I had half IVF and half ICSI. None of the IVF fertilised and I ended up with 4 embryos from ICSI. I was really upset, convinced that I didnt have much chance and that they would tell me that none of the embryos had developed. I ended up with 2 3 cell embryos, one of which went to to develop and become my beautiful daughter who is now 2 weeks old.
Take care

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all your support. I've just found out we've got to day 3 and have just 1 embryo left so am off to have it implanted. Feel a bit numb really but holding onto your advice - it only takes one and quality rather than quantity.

I think it will be easier next time (if there is one! - PMA!!!), the not knowing what to expect makes things a lot harder.

Good luck to you all.

Jane

Good luck Jane ! I remember one lady, quite some time ago, receiving an urgent call from her clinic - telling her to get in the car and get there double quick as her embies weren't looking good. She was obviously devastated. Two weeks later she had her BFP !!!

Lots of PMA !!!!
