Hiya,

Jen - sounds great. how are you feeling for the ET?

Carolyn, so good that you can start the next round soon.

Becky, well done on your weight loss!!!!!

All I have been doing of late is work, work and more work. Been working late for the past 5 days and feel drained out. i've lost 5 lbs in the past week, but thats only cause I only have time to eat one meal. By the time I reach home at night, all I want to do is crawl into bed.

Anyway, got our appointment for Big B in November. It seems so far away. This is only our first apointment. Does anyone know how soon they call you back for treatment after that. Can it be as soon as the next AF? We've been waiting for so long that all we want is for treatment to actually start. any of the Big B ladies mind filling me on the process and how it works?

in the meantime I am thinking about how to get away from work sometime next week to go to the doc and see if I can get some of the blood tests done on nhs. My results are over a year old and they will require new ones.

take care all and i'm thinking of you.

 Hi

So no show from Carolyn, news please babe, will email you and hassle you

Gill - Hugs, i know you are struggling, we're here for you babe.

Angel - Congrats on the date for Big B :D
As soon as i had my first appointment at IM i was allowed to start treatment on my next cycle, the following month but it does depend what is wrong with you and if they feel you need more checks done before starting. They do move fast though and prefer to get on with things. They aslso have to find the donor but this only took a couple of weeks. From my first app to ET it was 11 weeks and 3 days. They put you on pills first and this takes the longest, it feels like it is taking forever but as soon as the pathes go on about the last 2 weeks then you have a scan and ET is a few days away. Good luck, just ask if you need to know anything else.

Looked at my ticker this morning and got a major tummy turn, then remember about the scan tomorrow and it turns even harder.

Got my scan in the morning, so crossing everything that the lining is thickening up, dont know what we will do if its not. Cant afford to lose money on flighs etc and dont get hols from work until Nov?????????
Hope patch number 3 is doing the trick :?:

Catch up later

Thanks for the info Jen. Hope your lining is thickening nicely.

Few more questions. We are planning to go for only 5 days for egg retrieval and ET, with the rest of the monitoring being done here. I know some of you have/ are doing the same. Could someone give me an idea of the things involved here (scans/ bloods) and what the costs are? I assume none of this could be done on the NHS?

My results so far have been ok (keeping my fingers crossed). The problem is I have had all these tests done over the past 2 years. They need results within the last 6 months. So I'll have to try begging my GP to let me have these re-done on nhs. Any savings have got to be good.

Sorry can't do any personals. Looks like its going to be another sleepover at work - its manic! Hope all of you are keeping well and strong!

Hi Angel

I am using donor eggs so we only had one initial appointment then turn up for ET. We got all my paperwork from my previous hospital and my Dr tested us for everything. She is fab so we got them free but she said they would have cost £300. We do get our scans in this country before ET, i was told i am allowed the first one free so when i go tomorrow i am expecting a bill to arrive. Apparently it costs £55 for a 5 min scan.

Sleepovers, what do you do. I have to do them at work to and they are hell.

Ladies

Sorry I have been MIA. Was mad busy before I went to Barcelona.

Thank you all for your kind words of support.

A few personals:

Su - I am very sorry but hpts are not always right. Will you do a blood test too? Big hugs. It is all very draining as you say

Beckster - cannot believe how much weight you have lost. You'll be Kate Moss before too long!

Jen1d - hope that your lining is getting nice and thick. Cannot believe how close it all is for you again

Gill - you know how much I have been thinking of you babe. Big hugs

Angel - totally understand where you are at in terms of waiting. I had to wait 8 weeks to get to my 1st appointment in Barcelona yesterday. It has really dragged especially over the last week/10 days. That is why I was so relieved that I could get going on my next AF. Like Jen, I am using donor eggs so cannot advice directly but we asked what tests they would require and got them all done here before we went - cheaper and easier in the long run although we have had some bumps along the way with dear nhs losing stuff. My dr agreed to do them all to help but I did beg. Hope that you can get the same done

Shantala and Rachel - our Mums to be - hope that you are both looking after yourselves and your little uns well

Everyone else - hus and baby dust - will do a proper round of personals at the weekend.

Just thought that I should post a bit about our trip and likely timings.

We had a good trip. Flights, hotel etc were all fine. I had not been to Barcelona for 20 years so was good to look around. We will spend more time there for ET and so have more chance to get a good look. We had tapas and ice cream down near the port area after we got there on Tuesday which was lovely. Then we walked around a bit after the appointment yesterday but I was shattered – could really feel my sarcoidosis hitting me. Happens after stressful/busy period usually when relief hits me.

All the info from the IM girls (Jen1d, Gill and JB) helped more than I can say. So we just wandered up to the clinic yesterday. It was lovely and sunny there. Clinic is very professional. Even though we had to wait they kept us informed all the time. Dh had to do his bit. Just upset that dvd was out of action after hearing all about it! So we met an English dr – Victoria Walker. She was lovely. They were over 1 hour late seeing us but she said that most of that time had been going through all our notes which she had not seen until the day and putting all our history onto the computer. She checked that all with us. Then said that 3 things need to be ‘right’ - eggs, sperm and my uterus. We talked through why we had got to ED and she said that it all made sense and she saw too many people who had had many many tries before we got to the point that we had. So we moved on as we said that we had made up our mind and that is why we were there. They suggested sperm fragmentation testing as my dh is over 45. We agreed as want to get all the tests and give it the best possible try. They may need to use all of the sample from yesterday so this may mean that we need to be there for EC. We have taken no real holiday this year so have no problem going for a week – other than it will be at short notice but cannot think that will be tricky in November. If there is an issue then they may need to get sperm direct from the testes. He loved that!!! About time he had to go through some of these things rather than me!!! They’ll tell us the results in a couple of weeks. Then we talked about my uterus. They suggested a 3rd hysteroscopy to check the nature of the lining rather than the shape. I nearly fell of my chair as I only had one at the end of June. She realised my reaction and said that I could just take the drugs anyway. Mix of antibiotics etc etc – three different drugs. I said that as long as there was nothing else that they would find out then I’d just take the drugs as a precaution. She said often if the tubes were blocked then it is because of an infection in the uterus that spreads. Drugs a lot lot cheaper than another hysteroscopy so we picked them up afterwards at the pharmacy for Euro13. Then we talked a lot about the donors – why they do it and how they get matched and if we can send her a message afterwards. I had two pages of questions typed up and we went through all of then together. Finally we talked about our characteristics – hair colour, eyes etc and they took a picture of us both. We talked about blood group and said that we were going to tell the child so were relaxed about matching or not. We were just more focused on a donor that hopefully will work!!!!

So guess after the scan and swab test on me, getting the drugs and paying we left after about 3 hours.

She said that I could start on my next AF which should be 2nd October. That I would likely be on bcps for most of October. Then patches at the start of November and ET by mid November. May be you could add my new info to the list Becky when you get a moment.

I don't think that this is a magic answer but have my head around the idea and the issues now. I want to give this my dam best shot and hope like hell it might work. If this does not work then me and dh will pull our life back together as a couple. Cannot take the limbo anymore. At least we have a plan so that alwats makes me feel better.

Hugs to everyone. Thanks for all the support. It has been an immense help to me.

Lots of Love
Carolyn

Well it's still a BFN this morning
My clinic doesn't do blood tests so have to rely on hpt. Spotting this morning too so I guess the test must be right.
