Alison,
I had an op on my tubes about 7 years ago for hydrosalpinges and they said the op was sucessful, I have been through so much since and have been told by different doctors that my tubes are either fine or blocked still. Only a few months ago I was told from a scan that both my tubes were fine then I had a laporoscopy and they took both tubes out as they were both so bad, it is so hard to know what to believe. I strongly believed from my history etc that my tubes were leaking toxins and to have them taken out was the best thing for me. The doc said when he took them out they were so bad I would have never got pregnant naturally and if ivf had worked it would have prob been an ectopic.
Whatever happens you have to make a decision that is right for you, I wish you lots of luck making it.

I'd like to share my story as I, too, have a tubal factor and going through IVF. I was diagnosed with blocked tubes in 9/06 and had a laparoscopy where my RE removed the most severe of the 2 which was the left and repaired the moderately damaged right. He gave me 3 IUI chances, none of which worked. Last Thursday, I had another HSG to see if the R tube is still open, which it was. There was spillage but showed the ends were a little dilated which probably accounts for my unsuccessful IUI's. But the good thing was, I didn't need another lap right now to remove it before the IVF. He says as long as it's spilling the other way, I have a good chance that IVF will work. I am cycling in Feb/March to do the IVF and he gave me a 2% chance for an ectopic. My biggest fear rt now is get pregnant but ending up as an ectopic or not working at all because of the moderately damaged but open tube.
Good luck to all of you and hopefully we would finally get our baby(ies) and become success stories soon...
Thanks for listening!

Hey Still trying...I had my 2nd opinion appt with a different doctor and come to find out he doesn't think I have a hydrosalpinx - he thinks it is just fluid at the end of the tube that maybe its flowing out but has no where to go due to maybe scar tissue near my ovary or something. He said the only way to tell is to repeat the HSG (aaugh!) and if it looks the same then yes its a hydro, if not than I won't have to take the tube out. He said all the hydros he has seen are in the middle of the tube not all the way at the end. Anyway, he was so nice and helpful and answered all my questions. I really think we are going to transfer our frosties so when we do the next FET, I'll have him do it instead of the clinic I have been at.
It's the only thing that feels right now so I'll make another appt to have him do the HSG maybe after my next cycle. Who knows I might be cycling around March/April. You have been thru so much...this new Dr was asking me if I the clinic I was at had tested me for antibodies. Said sometimes our immune system will attack foreign things like embryos since they are half someone else and I said no they never talked to me about anything like that. He said there is alot of things they can do, put you on steriods for example so your immune system won't go crazy. Baby aspirin was another thing. He told me if you are transferring excellent embryos at my age then he considers it a miscarriage not that it didn't work. I thought that was good. He said I should be getting pregnant and it was his job to make sure every cycle was not the same as the last. You gotta change it up he said!
Anyway I am rambling... you and Anna take care and here's to successful cycles for all of us this year God willing!
Thanks for sharing your stories...
BIG HUGS,
Allison
Anna, I hope I haven't made you fear an ectopic pregnancy, we may have had totally different tubal damage. Have faith in your doctor x
Allison, So pleased you have made a choice you are happy with. Your doctor sounds very encouraging x be careful with the bloods and nk tests they are in big debate ( tonights panorama ) , baby asprin though is a good option, I have been having that the last 2 cycles. I also have great success story about my best friend who had constant miscarriages until she was put on babay asprin and she now has 2 adorable children. The baby asprin helps thin the blood and prevent clotting, make sure if you take it though only take it with folic acid, I was on those pronatal mulit vits with them and the nurse said there is a vit that counteracts the effect of the asprin, they work against each other and then make no difference at all.
Good luck ladies, I am waiting to see when we can cycle again , we may be going same time xx

I'm glad your new RE suggested another HSG. I did have a 2nd one too and it didn't hurt as bad as the 1st. Actually I hardly felt anything this time around. I just felt better about my rt tube being open and that must have been the cause of no discomfort since it spilled the other way compared to my first one when both tubes were blocked. Good luck!
Still trying, I'm worried about an ectopic but I'm more worried about the IVF not working at all. But I am trusting my RE and my body. Good thing IVF is the best option for us tubeless/damaged tubed women. BTW, what is it in prenatals that's counteracting the effects of baby aspirin? Is is the Vit. K?
Anyway, good luck to each of us wherever we are in our cycles. I hope and pray things work out for all of us!
