Hi Nicki,
I've just been reading through this thread.
I can understand your heartbreak.
We did it all back to front. We had 3 donor inseminations and were told there was no donor sperm left and the likelyhood of getting any was 'nil. We went the adoption route next. This was a wrong decision! Eventually my DH changed his mind (hurragh!!!!) and we are on the 2nd round of ICSI with his TESE sperm.
Before this all started though I approached a friend to be a donor. It was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. He is a single gay man and SUCH a lovely person, we thought we could do no better. However I was terrified that if he refused we would lose his friendchip. It took months of talking between DH and I before I could work up the courage to speak to our friend. Eventually I thought that if I didn't ask I would never let myself rest.
He was shocked and didn't know what to say. He asked for a while to think about it. He NEVER answered us. Some weeks later I said to him the clinic needed to know and he just said "sorry". To this day I don't know his reasons fo not wanting to do it. It hasn't effected our friendship, but it is always there between us. I love him dearly and at least he knows that, but in a way I wish I hadn't asked him as it caused him embarassment and heartache.
There is nobody else on earth I would have ever considered asking, so his refusal was a big shock.
What I'm trying to say is, if you do have a friend who would donate it would be fantastic. However, be very careful who you choose as you may lose the nicest person you know for ever.

On a brighter note, I went for my second scan yesterday (12 follies stimming nicely, ER tomorrow) and a guy arrived carrying a cryogenic fridge full of sperm. It was a private thing, not clinic funded and being brought in for an IVF woman. We had a little chat about it. So clinics are using the foreign donors more and more often. I'm sure you'll find something out there.
Good luck.

Wow, thanks so much for your replies, not feeling so bad now just going with flow really....What can I do really???

Anyway, Jamimia Thanks, thats made me feel great. you are lovely too, and to take the time to post to me is great too, what a star....
I dont even know where to satrt to look for info sperm abroad, and I am scared about buying it online, I worry about whether its been screened, coz the last thing I want is to end up with a life threatening disease, I woudl rather be childless than with aids or any other diseases......

So any advice on sperm donor abroad would be great. :D

Lynne, I have asked DH to have op and re think it, and well thats how it stands, dh is thinking about it, but I dont want to keep going at him, so have left the thought with him.....We will see huh???

Traci, I have thought about changing clinics, I would hurt to call and ask about donor sperm, but from what i hear the shortage is all over the UK....
Parhaps on my next day off I will call around, its not easy having that conversation at work or on ur mobile in your lunch break.....

A big thank you to ya all, Love ya all xxxx

Nickii,

How bloody frustrating this is for you. Can your clinic get it from another. I know my clinic told me they had no shortage.
The name of it is Manchester Fertility Services (MFS). Its the leading one in the Northwest of England. Their number is 0161 227 0010, web address is www.manchesterfertility.com

They offered me sperm donation in February and told me there's never a shortage. Must be all the students up here desperate for the cash.

I really hope something works out for you quickly honey. You're in my thoughts.

nikki,
I can give you the name of a place here in the states.
It's where I got mine not sure if they send out of country though but you can check, they are screened for everything and you can get pictures of the donor as a child usually.

Nicki,

I have no info I can offer you, and if my DH didn't have such lazy sperm, I would offer you that. All I wanted to say was I wish you all the strength in the world to get through this latest hurdle. It's not fair of your clinic to leave it til the last minute to tell you - they obviously have no idea how much we all wait and anticipate our next cycles.

I hope you get the sperm you need and finally get that BFP - you deserve no less. You are an angel.

Hi Nicky...

You are right, You must check the credibility of the institution. About AIDS, genetic disease, you do not have to worry. They repeat all test. But its better you communicate with the staff the way they choose the donor. they have official website.

I hope i hear good news from you soon...

Love

Nicki, how you doing? So sorry to see the news about the sperm. That really sucks. Hope you can find some. There MUST be a way you can sort this. Lots of clinics in UK have sperm donor programmes, there must be some somewhere.

Hope your knee is OK too!

Lots of luck
Bye for now

Apparent;y its at crisis point all over the UK, and clinic's will only let their patients have it,which I guess is fair enough, but some are more strict than others, so just need to call about really, Ive been told that London would be the best bet.

Also been told that buying from abroad is a way too, but can take a while because of a lincence needed from HFEA.....

So the search continues....There must be some some where with our name on, but it's crazy really it is...

I urge all dh's to donate, pls guys it would mean so much to us and sure others in our situation, we need more donors.....
