Emily and Ryan have made a surprise visit.

Post by stephjim »

Hello all. I am sorry I have not been in for a while but I wanted to let everyone know that my precious babies have been welcomed into world unexpectedly. I will go into the full story another time, but I had sudden onset of SEVERE preclampsia and it was already effecting my kidneys and Ryan's amniotic sac, so they took them out on Monday the 27th. They are both in the NICU still and thriving. Ryan was 4 pounds 15 oz and Emily was 3 pounds 15 oz. Ryan is now on nasal canula but did make it to the ventilator for a couple of days (hardest days of my life) and Emily is on room air already. Not sure how long they will be there, but I don't want them to come home unless they are ready. I am a nurse but not capable of taking care of a really sick baby. I will post pics soon and give the whole story soon, but wanted to let everyone know they are beautiful and the best thing that ever happened to me and I can't imagine my life without them, although I do miss them kicking me. :)

Sweetmomi-No! I'm so so sorry. I can't imagine the pain you are feeling and I know nothing we can say can ease it any. I had a miscarriage last year after my 1st ivf and it was very painful emotionally and physically so I know some of what you are feeling. I hope you take the time you need to grieve. I will be thinking of you.

Stefanie-You will have to take up any offers you get for helping you purchase things. Everything helps at this point. Our parents bought us our cribs, changing table, and cradle. That was the biggest help ever. We just bought our glider chair and ottoman which I LOVE!! We got a chandalier too which is fabulous! We still have so much more to buy though. It's a little mind boggling. We were looking at diapers today at the store and they are so expenseive. 17$ for 66 of them, and with twins, that will go fast!

Stephjim-CONGRATULATIONS!!! How wonderful! I'm so glad that you are safe and healthy and that your little ones are healthy as well! I'm sure you are so inlove with them already! I'm so happy for you!

Crescendo97-I won't be having much help either and it really scares me. I'm just hoping I'm not a walking zombie. I don't do well on no sleep. This will be interesting! We have a schedule planned out already. If I go to sleep around 9pm after they come home. I can do my last feeding around 8:30pm, DH will stay up until around 1am and do the last feeding around 12:30am, which will mean hopefully I won't have to be up until around 3-4am. Sounds good, but I know it probably won't work out the way I'm hoping. LOL.

stephjim - congratulations!!! wow

I was just reading my twins triplets and quads book on what can go wrong tonght - preeclamsia, open cervix, preterm labor and had a panic attach. It just feels like so much can go wrong w/ twins. Here I was so happy to get out of the first trimester and now I'm scared again.
I wanted to read to know what's out there and to help know the signs and things to ask my doctor, but still it just burst my bubble and terrified me. Anyone else feel this way?

Stefanie-
Me, Me!! I feel that way too! Even though I'm not the one pregnant, my surrogate is. I thought I would feel so relieved after the 1st trimester. Nope, here we are at 23 1/2 weeks and I feel no better. Now I have different worries. My biggest worry has been that her cervix will remain nice and long and closed. So far it has, but I know things can change quick, especially if you are not resting enough. I don't think I will feel comfortable until the twins are here and healthy. My husband calls me nervous nancy. LOL.

I feel the same way as well, My fingers have been swelling up a bit lately (I'm sure due to my salt intake) but the first thing that popped into my head was pre-eclampsia. At this point it's almost like just worrying about m/c was a breeze. That's only one thing hat can happen, now I'm worried about 10 or 12 things at once.
Another thing I'm worried about is the 2nd level ultrasound that's comming up in like 3 weeks. I'm terrified they're going to find something wrong with my babies. We opted out of nuchal and cvs and all the other tests but this one we're bound to in one way or another and I'm petrified.
On the bright side I can almost feel the fluttering and occasional light little kicks in my belly regularly, which is such a huge relief and so reassuring.
Oh, and any one elses belly getting really hard? Mine is getting like a rock!!

I feel the same way too! My belly is getting hard also. I am 16 weeks today and I started spotting again, a bit heavier and red/brown. Also, when I went to the bathroom and I am sry in advance for the TMI, there were NO clots but little red pieces of body tissue (for lack of better terminology) I guess....????? Of course I am seeng my OB tomorrow AM b/c I am slightly freaking. Has anyone had spotting everytime you go through a growth spurt. I am trying to think that is what it is so I can remain level headed and calm for me and my Angels.

Tell me if you have aexperienecd this so I can feel better!!!

Hey jennifer: I'm sorry to ask such a personal question but is it possible that your spotting from sex? My husband and I where intimate and I also had some red spotting after. Very light and short lived, but scary none the less. Could it be from that?
And try not to think of the tissue like that. You'll make a stressful situation that much crazier. I'm sure what your seeing is clots, but I can understand how your imagination and thinking the worst can make you think that. Please try to take it easy for yourself and the babies sakes and we're all rooting for you. Please let us know how you make out tomorrow. Big hugs!!!

The biggest thing with twins, especially if you start to swell is make sure to check your blood pressure at home. Go buy a digital one. It will be a great investment. because if I had not checked mine it could have gotten really bad fast as far as the preclampsia and my babies being affected by it. Ryan was already being effected and I had started not peeing as much so my kidneys were already starting to be effected. So just keep a close look at it. I had no issues until 33 weeks but it does not mean that everyone will have it, ok?

Here is the full story. On the 26th of October, I had to rush to the hospital because I had a blood pressure of 160/100. I got there they checked my urine and I had +3 protein in my urine. (severe preclampsia). This happened all of a sudden. I had no idea it was going on. The only indication, besides my massive cankles, was that my fluid on Ryan's sac was low but the doc just told me to drink fluids and it should take care of it and come back in a week. Well the fluid I was drinking was just going to my legs. We found this out because on the 27th, they checked my fluid level again and it was dangerously low and within 2 hours I was in the OR and they were taking both babies out. Oh and both were breech so I had no chance of delivering vaginally. Emily was 3 pounds 14 oz and Ryan was 4 pounds 14 oz. They are both still in the NICU and growing strong. They are both on room air and starting to take the bottle. Hopefully will only be there another week.

So I got out of the hospital on Friday the 31st at night and then Sunday morning I woke up and could not breath and it sounded like I was passing a bucket of water through my lungs. My husband called 911 and they got me to the hospital. Well at first they were thinking CHF or pulmonary edema with the preclampsia. Basically the fluid all over my body, especially my legs, shifted to my lungs. They gave me Lasix to make me pee stuck a catheter in my bladder and it cleared up the fluid. I was breathing and I felt a lot better. However my Cat Scan showed right lung infiltrates consistent with pneumonia. So they started treating me for that. Oh and every health care workers nightmare, I also found out that I am colonized, not infected, with MRSA in my nose. Which means I am a carrier right now. Isn't that special? So I get to bathe in the stuff surgeons wash their hands with for a week. Well anyways, I just got out of the hospital last night. The only thing that kept me going through all of this was that my precious babies are doing well and we home just one more week in the NICU. I hope to have more pics here soon too send out.

I will be posting pics here in a second.

Oh my gosh! What an ordeal! Wow! I'm so glad though that they caught that in time. You must feel like you have dodged a bullet with that. It's fantastic that your twins are breathing room air now. That must make you feel great! I'm so sorry that you are a carrier of MRSA. I have heard that many people are carriers, have it in thier nose, without ever knowing it. I've often wondered if I am. It has been through my family, so I have to wonder......Are they making you bathe in that stuff so your csection wound does't get MRSA?
